We visited Stirling Castle on 1st July 2014, parked in the town and walked up the hill. I was thinking of trying to find somewhere for lunch when we spotted Hermanns. The menu on display outside showed 2 courses for £10 lunches and had a reasonable selection but seemed a bit of an odd mix. We went in anyway because my husband was hungry (and he is a bit grumpy when hungry).
The restaurant was empty but was nicely turned out with linen table clothes etc. We were shown to a table and given then menu which had a better selection than shown on the outside board. The waitress answers any questions confidently and took our order efficiently. She did point out there would be a 20 minute delay for the chicken main course my husband ordered.
We had a lovely meal. Husband had duck liver pate with oaty biscuits and a bit of salad and then had chicken as the main with a slice of haggis on top in a lovely sauce. I had pasta with bacon, mushrooms and eggs (sort of a carbonara). Food delicious, service great, nice clean toilets, good price. What more can you ask for? I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Stirling. Don't be put off by how empty it may look, it was outstanding.

Had my Dad's 80th birthday celebration dinner here and had a fabulous time. Twenty adults and six children in the conservatory on a beautiful evening allowing the children to play in the garden to the rear. The staff were polite, attentive and kind, the food was amazing and the drink flowing, excellent value for money. We all had a brilliant night in a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful location in Stirling. Cannot fault it, well worth a visit.

This restaurant has a fabulous location, right by the castle, and is probably literally in a class of its own - how many Scottish-Austrian restaurants can there be? To be honest, the menu wasn't as exciting as that might suggest, and there wasn't anything outstanding about the quality of what we had - but it is good competent standard fare of the two nationalities, in agreeable surroundings, and with a decent wine list. We were there on a soaking wet summer's evening, and the atmosphere was welcoming and cheerful. Not cheap, but not outrageous, and a good experience.

Stopped here for lunch after a visit to Stirling Castle. It was easy to spot, on the first corner below the castle. The decor is inviting; seating is all at tables. We each had the three course fixed price lunch with a glass of Gruner Veltliner that was stellar for a by-the-glass wine. The mushroom & tarragon soup was wonderful (and a great pairing with the Gru-Ve due to the herbs). The goat cheese salad was tasty with the cheese being slightly seared. The Weinerschnitzel was well prepared, but the cheese spaetzel was a bit bland. The hazelnut-bramble tart was a winner, while the crepes with chocolate sauce were nice but not outstanding. The total bill for two three course lunches and two glasses of wine came to £35.

Overall a nice place. Austrian food is not traditionally very spicy, but some of the dishes could have used just a bit more pizzaz. If we had both had the soup, the Weinerschnitzel, and the hazelnut-bramble tart this would have been a five star review without question.

One other thing to be aware of: they stop seating for lunch at 2:00 and close until dinner.
