“A wonderful find”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

On a perfect Scottish winter's night, clear skies, sparkling stars and crispy cool air with the sound of crunching frost under foot, we stopped outside this B+B. Then we woke up from the long drive from deepest Devon. It was all a dream! With howling wind, skin-ripping rain and a chill to shiver your timbers we quickly rushed into what proved to be a wonderful guest house. An absolute gem!

The ample-sized room was oh-so inviting, the bed so comfortable, and the en-suite something to behold; while the Host's welcome was so jolly and warm. The result of stepping into the house was an overwhelming sense of complete and utter relaxation. Wonderful...

Breakfast was to order, and at a time to suit, and boy-oh-boy it ticked all the boxes... Top tip, a slug of whisky over your porridge that's got a knob of melting butter and topped with caramelised sugar is a great way to start the day! Mind you the Scottish breakfast was quite something too!

Bottom line? A brilliant find! Well done to Stuart for everything he's achieved around the house; the décor, the sense of tranquillity and space in which to relax is a reflection of the passion and pride he no doubt has for doing something, and doing it well.

Well done too for all the endurance sporting success he's had, another indicator of him giving the best he can.

I'll be back! Cheers...

Room Tip: Only saw the room downstairs and that was enough!

Hello Spike W, what a brilliant review and rating. Many thanks for taking time to write this, really appreciated.
It's great to hear you really enjoyed staying here, finding the room / house comfortable and relaxing.
I think I may need to hide the whisky in the morning, not always a good idea to have for breakfast, but it does give the porridge a wee bit of a "kick", as long as you are not driving.
I hope you can both stay again in the future, will be able to show you some great biking / running trails.
Cheers
Stuart

I stayed here for a whole week and do not have a single complaint. The room was lovely and clean, with a TV, well appointed ensuit as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Stuart is a fantastic host who is very knowledgeable and happy to help/advise. DVDs, laundry, internet and whisky tasking as some of the extras, I literally cannot recommend this place more highly. Not to mention the amazing homemade breakfast!

We booked Ravenswood via Laterooms on the strength of the reviews and I noted everyones comments on the owner Stuart Wilson. Stuart was a fantastic host and communication was top notch as we were arriving late due to a mad rush from France to go to a wedding in Scotland.

We booked for a double and were given Room 1 on the ground floor. The room had a double and a single bed and whilst it was just my wife and I (taking a break away from the kids for the night) we did comment that it would have been perfect if we had brought the kids (1 is in a cot) too. The bed was so comfy that my wife has made me email Stuart back to find out where he gets his bedding from!! Room was immaculately clean and had free WiFi with very strong signal in the room as Stuart has had the intuition to install Homeplug extenders to boost the signal (old house with thick stone walls) in the room. Breakfast was a choice of English, Scottish and continental with cereals, fresh fruit, fresh orange/pineapple and homemade bread and a huge pot of tea. We both went for the Scottish breakfast having spent the previous week having french breakfast it was really great to get a good Scottish cooked breakfast and we both thoroughly enjoyed it!

Stuart was a fantastic host, friendly and approachable and communication before and after our booking has been first class.

I would urge anyone looking in the Stirling area to book here, we will most definitely be back in the future.

Hello McCoisty, what a great review / rating. Many thanks for taking time to write this, much appreciated.
Really enjoyed meeting you both on your mad dash from skiing in France to a wedding in Scotland.
Good to hear you enjoyed staying in Room One, which you found clean and comfortable, it's definitely a favourite with my guests.
I would really like to thank the inventor of Wi-Fi plug extenders, it's made a massive difference to the strength of the signal throughout the house, now means every room receives superfast broadband.
Glad you enjoyed the breakfast choice and please contact me direct for the best rates if you want to stay with your children in the future (saves me paying commission to Laterooms :-) )
Cheers

Stayed here for 1 night and received a warm welcome when we arrived. We were given a bigger room than expected, that had tea/coffee/kettle, TV, hair dryer, shower gel etc., and there was a big bathroom with shower and separate bath... the room itself was nicely lit, and the bed was comfy. Breakfast offers a lot of options from fully cooked Scottish fry up (bacon, eggs, haggis, sausage etc,) to porridge, home made bread, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice & plenty of tea & fresh ground coffee. There was even whisky available if you want to spice your porridge up!! Check out time was 10am, but the owner was very flexible letting us leave a little later. He was friendly and chatty.

Most convenient was that we were given a front door key, so there was no curfew - meaning we could go out & explore the city at night and socialise, without worrying about having to get back by a specific time. The location was also close to the castle, supermarkets & major road ways and was easily accessible. There was also some parking on site, though there would only be room for up to 3 cars at a squeeze. Really pleasant stay, and will definitely be back there. Value for money :-)

Hello Showbizwriter, many thanks for taking time to write a fantastic review / rating of your stay here. I really enjoyed meeting you both and hope you can stay again, remember I'm happy to show you some good running / mountain biking routes in the area.
You had Room One which is always a favourite with guests who book it.
Glad you enjoyed the breakfast choice, though I wouldn't advise adding the whisky to your porridge, maybe have a wee nip at night before bedtime....
Always happy to be flexible with check-out times if I can.
Parking is sometimes difficult when I'm busy, but lots of free street parking round the corner from the house, only 30 second walk. I leave my car there all the time and never an issue.
See you both soon.
Cheers
Stuart

I spent a week in Stirling working and I decided to stay at Ravenswood. The decision was very successful because the place has everything you need to feel at your own home and also Stuart the owner helped me in finding another B&B close to Glasgow airport for my return. If i have to come backagain i will repeat for sure.
