Cambuskenneth Abbey

The ruins of the Abbey can be reached from two directions. You can drive here by coming from the Wallace Monument, or walk from Stirling town centre and cross over the river by footbridge. The local street maps are helpful in this regard. Very significant site in Scottish history although there is not a lot of ruins. On a nice day it`s a lovely place for young families to picnic and pretend that they are Knights of the realm

For an unattended site this was very well put together and there was a lot of information on the plaques around the place. Cambuskenneth is just a walk from Stirling, and well worth the trek!

I live in Stirling but had never visited before. I took the opportunity of visiting today and for a walk in the sunshine.
The tower will take about 1 minute to look around as there's nothing inside but it's a nice stroll in the gardens and around the old graves.
An interesting history as this was where parliament met following the battle of Bannockburn.
A good photo opportunity in quiet and peaceful surrounds. Worth a visit if you're a tourist and are maybe visiting the Wallace Monument. Otherwise I wouldn't go out my way to visit.

It's a really nice walk to the abbey from the centre of Stirling on a good day (should take no longer than 30mins each way) and more accessible than driving. The site is little known which is a shame as it is well maintained and rich in history. It could do with a little more information on the abbey as there were many questions left unanswered, but overall it is well worth the visit.

It will most likely take you longer to get to what's left of this abbey than you'll spend looking at it but if you're into that sort of thing then that probably won't bother you. Otherwise a snap of "that tower over there by the river" will probably be enough for you.
