“Nice staff and excellent breakfast.”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

Stayed here for a two day conference.

Hotel itself is absolutely fine, but maybe a wee bit tired, but seriously nothing remotely off-putting. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming and we were always greeted with a 'how are you' or good morning' etc.

Room was ok, but WC was excellent and obviously recently refitted to a modern and contemporary style. Good facilities in the WC, nice toiletries and a good shower and a bath. The room we had was filled with sunshine in the morning....a rare occurrance in Scotland.

The hotel offers a full a la carte menu, with deals we did not try. However, another couple at the same conference said the food was excellent. What I can comment on is the breakfast. It majorly excelled itself. Full range of fresh fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, and also the option of a full scottish breakfast, which we had. Good quality foods, in particular the black pudding, all cooked freshly to order, and toast, with a cafitiere of fresh coffee. This was all served by a happy looking employee. To be honest, I was happy and comfy in this hotel, but the breakfast was the clincher.

During the conferencin, the fresh made shortbread was a nice touch, along with fresh coffee and assorted teas. However, the food provided in the conference was a wee bit mixed up and varied, but overall, good.

The hotel is situated a two minute walk from the city centre. So, really, no taxis are required, but we did take a taxi as there's no accounting for Scottish weather.

All in all, a good choice for a hotel in the area. It ticks all the boxes you expect.

Room Tip: Get a room to the front of the hotel and don't skip breakfast!

The hotel was lovely, the room was a fine for what we needed it for - just somewhere to lay our heads as were were out all day and night and it was clean. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and the food was delicious, then breakfast in the morning which was the full Scottish and very filling. The staff were very friendly.

Reception staff friendly enough. Public areas looked fine. We were given room 14 which had a double bed, a big TV on the wall, tatty and worn single wardrobe and drawer unit. They had obviously been dark wood at one time........ That was all that was in the room. no bedside table, threadbare throw at the bottom of the bed, and NO HEADBOARD. Just pillows leaning against the bare wall. I have never slept in a bed with no headboard.
I asked the girl at reception if the hotel was full and she said no, there were still acouple of empty rooms. I said i would like to see one of them as i wasnt sleeping in the room she had given us. It just felt very, basic and shabby.
We got a twin room which was nice enough. But i was not impressed and will not be back.

Room Tip: room 9 was ok but not 14.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed in your room. 2 of the 18 rooms we have do not have headboards. We are currently undergoing getting headboards put in these rooms. The receptionist on duty did her best to resolve your complaint at the time, by moving you into an available room which did have a headboard, which I’m glad to hear was more to your liking. Once again sorry for your disappointment and we do hope to see you back one day at Terraces Hotel.

Double room £54 very good value, spacious & clean. Good bed & TV. Bathroom nice but shower tray & grouting needed attention. Receptionist very friendly & helpful, breakfast waitress could smile more. Menu looked sad, with no suggestion of chef prepared fresh food, so we ate out. Good parking and great location, nice hotel for the price.

Room Tip: Room no 1 was large well fitted and away from street.

The reception staff were very pleasant and friendly. The rooms were clean. The bathroom was clean and very welcoming. I loved the tartan theme carried out throughout the hotel - gave it a feeling of tradition. The food was absolutely delicious and well priced. We will defiantely be back!

Room Tip: Basement suites are huge!!!!

Although the Terraces has had indifferent reviews regarding reception staff, I must say I had a good welcome here.

I felt even better when I was given the key to "Suite 1" a very large basement bedroom with sofa, massive king size bed and large bathroom. It was bitterly cold outside, but the heating was in excellent order.

It was only at about 6:30 AM the following morning when the novelty started to wear off!! Suite 1 is directly below the main corridor and restaurant with wooden floor. Any hopes of a decent sleep were quickly dashed.

If you plan to stay here, and aren't a heavy sleeper, avoid Suite 1 at all costs!!

We stayed at the hotel, after my birthday party which was held in the hotel. The whole experience was marvelous, the staff very exceptionally helpful, friendly and ensured everyone had agreat time. Everyone commented on how great the catering for the party was. We had a suite and it was brilliant; big and bright with a really comfortable bed. Breakfast in the morning was just fantastic especially my poached eggs tha twere cooked exactly the way I like. Leaving the hotel the staff again were more than helpful even the chief helped carry out bags, and presents.. I highly recommend this hotel and will have no hesitation in staying here again. Well done to the staff for making our party and stay a very memoriable experience.

Room Tip: Friends tha tstayed over said their rooms were perfect, we had one of the suites it was brilliant.
