We are a family of three (Mom, dad and our teenage daughter) and travel a lot, usually going to the Club level of American chain hotels. This time, we wanted to try something different and trusted the excellent reviews of the West Plean House on trip Advisor, and we are so glad that’s what we did!!
We organized an itinerary to spend 15 days in Scotland in June. Our stay started at the West Plean House and we were planning to finish our vacation at a hotel in Edinburgh. However, we loved the West Plean House so much that we changed our plans and went back to the West Plean House instead. We spent 4 nights at the West Plean House at the beginning of our vacation, then went back for an additional 3 nights at the end of our stay in Scotland.
This is how amazing this bed and breakfast is!
The owners are so friendly and welcoming that you immediately feel part of their family. We were first welcomed by Hannah, who offered us a warm cup of tea with some freshly baked shortbread cookies. We enjoyed them in the drawing room decorated with tasteful antique furniture.
Then, she showed us our room, a large family room (the Rowan) overlooking the backyard and the chicken run. It had an extremely comfy king size bed and two single beds. It was decorated with taste and exceptionally clean. We also had our private bathroom which was immaculate. It was located right outside the bedroom. Since there is no other room to book on that floor, it felt like our own private quarter.
Breakfast was really healthy and delicious: A very rich and creamy porridge freshly made by Hannah every morning. Eggs that could not be fresher (since we heard the hens lay their eggs every day:). Bacon and fresh fruit from local farms, homemade bread and jam, yoghurt, etc.
The breakfast room has several tables, so you do not eat at the same table as the other guests. A plus, if you want to have private conversations with your family.
The West Plean house is located about 20 minutes from Stirling and about one hour from Edinburgh. Hannah helped us navigate our way around the area and booked restaurants for us. I strongly recommend The Torbrex Inn.
Then, when you are done visiting castles and monuments, and you want to retreat from the touristic sites, you can “go back home” to the West Plean House and enjoy strolling in their extremely well maintained garden and fields, or you can play fetch (as we did) with Molly, their very cheerful little dog. Thank you Hannah and your family (and Molly) for making our vacation memorable!

We had stayed at West Plean previously but it is now under new management, although in the same family. It was everything we could have asked and, when we are back in the Stirling area, will not be staying anywhere else if accommodation is available at West Plean.

This was a welcome country stay after several days in various cities. Quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Moira was a charming and gracious host. The bedroom and bath were spacious and comfy, and breakfast was delicious. We were there when the daffodils were blooming, and thoroughly enjoyed a walk down the daffodil trail.

Moira and Tony were wonderful hosts. Cozy rooms with everything we need. Delicious Scottish breakfast everyday. We stayed for 2 nights and was raining every day, the house was very warm and cozy to come back to.

I wish I could have stayed for more than one night! Moira and her husband Tony were excellent hosts. From the welcoming tea to advice on dinner to the best mattress I slept on during my whole trip to going out of their way to feed me breakfast before seven to the great conversations it was just lovely. Highly recommended!
