Initial impressions were very good - an attractive cafe across a courtyard, with a range of groceries for sale. We ordered macaroni cheese. When served the portion was modest and did not justify the £6.60 price. Although the sauce had plenty of cheese, it did not appear to be cooked out and tasted floury. We were not charged but my this stage has lost our appetite and went elsewhere.
While we were sitting waiting for our meal, we observed the staff preparing other orders. This involved variously handling meat, cheese and fruit. The same chopping board was used without being cleaned. There was little hand-washing. For example, slices of meat were lifted by hand instead of using tongs and then other foodstuffs were touched. One of the staff was also touching her hair whilst serving. Food hygiene practice left a lot to be desired.
It's a great shame that on this occasion the cafe did not live up to it's visual presentation.
