Having dined at The Inn at Torbrex tonight with my wife, son and daughter, I can only say that we were disappointed with the meal served.
To be fair, the establishment appears to be a popular choice of the locals, as it was busy both in the restaurant and bar.
The service was good, with a warm and friendly welcome from the serving staff, but of the food we ordered, the only item that received pass marks was the Burger and Chips ordered by my son, who enjoyed it thoroughly.
On the down side, my daughter ordered the Carbonara which appeared to have been given an overdose of garlic. On top of this, the bacon pieces within the Carbonara, which although plentiful, were solid and difficult to chew, whilst almost without taste, possibly due to the afore mentioned ration of garlic.
My wife ordered the Chilli Con Carne which came with a heavy helping of cheese. This only served to bind the meal into a thick goo, which obviously got thicker as it cooled.
I ordered their Torbrex Beef Pie from their "Specials". This arrived with chips and veg, both of which were very good.......especially the chips, but the puff pastry was clearly burnt and the beef had a slight tang of something I could not clearly identify, making it an overall poor choice on the night.
In the end, only our son left satisfied with his meal, whilst in discussion as we awaited our bill, the rest of us agreed we will not be rushing to pay another visit any time soon !

What an excellent place. Lots of choice from a reasonably priced menu. The food was excellent so they will be excused for serving a different ( and more expensive ) wine when my wife asked for another glass of wine.

On Sunday 27th December 2015 we had booked a meal for seven people at the Torbrex for a special family occasion. We paid £10 pp at the time of booking and as we are fairly regular customers we had expected to enjoy a nice evening. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed by a number of things. 1. Several items on the a La Carte and festive menu were not available including Turkey. 2, We chose from the available items which were acceptable when they arrived however when it came to dessert only two items were available and we were informed the restaurant had no vanilla ice cream available. We asked if we could select a dessert from the festive menu and were told we could not swap between the menus even though several of our party had chose steaks which were more expensive than the three course festive dinner. After choosing desserts one member of the party was told their selection was not available. To add insult to injury on checking our bill we discovered that the missing dessert had been charged on the bill and the bill also omitted the deposit that we had paid previously. An overcharge of nearly £70. This had happened before with this restaurant who had previously charged us, for a bottle of wine we had not ordered.
A number of excuses were offered about supplies running short however as the booking was made well in advance it should surely be the responsibility of management to ensure that customers are catered for and a high standard of service are provided. Surely because it is Xmas it is not acceptable for customers to be asked for a deposit to be then be told the items you thought you had secured were not available.

The Inn was a little hard to find but, worth the effort. A warm welcome led us to a nice table and a refreshments order followed quickly. The menu is varied with excellent choices at fair prices. The ambience is warm and classy with the staff going about their business with a quiet professionalism befitting the surroundings . The food was excellent and well priced and we would certainly return.
