“Restaurant is AMAZING!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

We live locally in Stirling so i've never stayed in the hotel but if we go out we go here, and if we have takeaway we go to The Brindisi. The service here is friendly and very efficient. It is always busy so i would advise anyone to book a table. The menu is not all that long, but that is a good thing in my experience. The garlic chilli chicken/garlic chicken is amazing and the array of salad each dish comes with is delicious and very well presented. The steaks are also absolutely faultless, the best steak i've ever had in fact! Lovely open fire in the winter, outside tables for the summer. 5* food all round!

Ate here on 27aug and was very disappointed with everything. We had a table booked for 7pm and arrived sharp for it went to bar to inform them of our arrival and got told its the fourth table up not even shown. Went to bar to order what we wanted and got told we will be 2mins waited for 10 then the waitress arrived to take order. We had 2 steaks 1 MW and 1MR which arrived in about 10 mins which was a little quick and was only Luke warm the veg which came with it was overcooked in fact I would go as far saying it was mush. Staff reminded me of not wanting to be there. This was meant to be our wedding anniversary meal. VERY DISSAPOINTED. WONT BE BACK

Just returned from a lovely 2 day break. Arrived Saturday and we were able to check in a little early. The hotel is a bit quirky, it seems to ramble on and on and has really thick walls, the lady who owned it told me that it used to be a school. Room 1 has a great view of the city and the bathroom has a great view of the Castle!
The food in the pub was excellent, we made the mistake of having a starter and a main course, we were full before we finished. The pub was very busy.
Breakfast in the upstairs dining room was excellent. The staff were very nice and friendly. The location of the hotel is perfect for visiting the Castle, but you need to be fit if you walk into town, its a bit of a hike back up, but it certainly burns up the calories from breakfast and dinner. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would love to visit again.

Room Tip: Room 1 was a twin and has excellent views of the city and the castle, Although it seems noisy in the...

We had a wonderful few days here. Location is perfect right next to castle entrance. Quiet location. Lovely pub downstairs. Great food. Breakfasts were fabulous. Lynn and her husband and staff were great. Loved the porridge - even though not on the menu Lynn made it for us every morning. Will def stay again.

My wife and I stayed here and absolutely loved it! I stayed here last year also. We both agree that this is our favorite B&B in Scotland. My wife is gluten free. I emailed ahead of time and Lynn bought gluten free bread specifically for us and also dairy free creamer. We had great conversations with Lynn as well as her son, Jimmy. The decor is spectacular. Perfect for being right next to Stirling Castle. Very clean and classy. The room was clean and very up to date. New windows and newly renovated large bathroom. You can't get a better location to Stirling Castle than the Portcullis. We will stay here every time we go back to Scotland!

We stumbled on this place several years ago when looking for wedding venues in Scotland. We were too tired to look any further for a room, and they offered us a dinner booking in their otherwise packed (and fully booked) restaurant if we stayed. The common areas were a bit below standard, but the rooms are very nice, and the view of the castle from the corner room is stunning. The food at the restaurant is wonderful (I recommend the Highland Chicken) and after eating in several other places in town, we doubly appreciated it! The staff is very friendly and the breakfasts generous. We stayed here again for our actual wedding (room with the castle view, please) and then again just last week when we took our kids to Scotland for the first time. You can probably find "nicer" places but I like a bit of character...and my kids like the biscuits and hot chocolate in the rooms.
