“Great B and B. Stay here.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2008

Jim and Christine and family are great! You could not ask for a better family to stay with if you are looking for a B and B anywhere near Glasgow or Edinburgh. It was a perfect location for us and the family is just great. They are great people who want nothing but for you to enjoy your stay and enjoy Scotland. It may have been the best B and B experience we've ever had.

Beautiful couple with a warm and inviting bed and breakfast. We felt with Jim and Christine that we were with family because they were helpful and thoughtful with our daily activities. It is near by Wallace monument and buses services have easy access. Breakfast was tasty and our room was comfortable.

We stayed at the Heatherdale for one night while we were in Stirling. We had a room with 2 twin beds and private (next door to the bedroom) bathroom.

The B&B is in an area near the university near lots of other B&B's and guesthouses. Heatherdale has the advantage in that it is slightly off Causewayhead, the main road and many other establishments are right on the main roadway.

Pros:
1. The place was amazingly clean. The owners really take good care of the property and seemed to be cleaning constantly. It showed.
2. The bathroom was large and the shower was one of the best we found in Scotland.
3. The breakfast was good. The mushrooms with breakfast were fantastic.
4. View of Wallace Monument.

Cons:
1. In the morning, we didn't quite get the breakfast we ordered (but didn't mention it to the hosts, so we didn't see if they would correct the error).
2. The hosts were kind of bickering with each other in the next room while our breakfast was being prepared which did make us a bit uncomfortable.

Overall, the place was nice. I wouldn't neccessarily stay there again, but didn't have any major complaints either.

My husband and I stayed at Heatherdale Bed and Breakfast for 7 nights in May when we visited Scotland. We made Stirling our headquarters for a week because it was the perfect location for doing day trips. Heatherdale B & B turned out to be a wonderful choice.

The hosts, Jim and Christy are a delightful couple. Jim has a terrific sense of humour, Christy provided us with information for day trips, etc. and we really liked them. Jim is also a great cook and our breakfasts each day (sausage, eggs, bacon, mushroom, fried tomatoes, delicious potatoe scones, toast, jam, coffee, orange juice, etc.) couldn't have been better and kept us going until late afternoon. Also, there was shortbread left on our tea tray every day and I loved that.

Heatherdale is beautifully decorated. The breakfast-sitting room has a fireplace, leather couches, video library and looks as good as any ad from a home decore magazine. There is a big table with table cloth which is nicely set out for breakfast in the morning. Everything is spotless and we felt completely at home and were so happy that we had chosen this B & B. Our bedroom had one of those ceiling windows so that we could look out at the sky and trees and the Wallace Monument - you really felt you were in Scotland. The bed linen and towels were immaculate and the room was also spotless! Jim and Christy obviously take pride in their B & B and it shows. There was a TV, ensuite, bedside tables, lamps, closet, and a coffee/tea tray with the aforementioned shortbread every day. Everything was exceptionally clean. Maybe I am stressing this too much but it is so important to me. There is also a hair dryer, iron and ironing board available for use if needed.

One day we visited Stirling Castle and walked around Stirling itself. We took day trips to Edinburgh (x2) and Glasgow by ourselves on the train - very easy to do as you get out at the stations right in the middle of Edinburgh and Glasgow. We drove to St. Andrews one day on our own and another day took a tour with Derek of Claymore Travel -- or --) to see Loch Lomond and the Trossachs which turned out to be very enjoyable. We wished we had booked Derek to take us to St. Andrews as well as driving on the left is difficult when you are not used to it and we would have seen more, ie East Neuk fishing villages.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Heatherdale and would highly recommend it. The price of 50 pounds per night was reasonable for this standard of B & B.
