A jail might seem an odd place to visit but the Stirling Old Town Jail gives you an insight into how the jail was run, gives a you a bit history and definitely gives amusement. After the tour you get to take the lift to the old watch tower where the view is just amazing. You are accompanied by a guide to answer any questions. Its £5 well spent!

Fun attraction with actors working really hard to bring the attraction to life, it was well acted out. Won't take up too much of your time but worth the entry fee and the view from the observation tower was excellent. The only thing I would say is that although wheelchair users will be able to enjoy the main tour they can't access the jail cells of have access to the observation tower which limits their interaction at the attraction.

Having done what I pllanned to do in Stirling I decided to walk down the hill from the Castle and found the Old Town Jail. Since I had plenty of time I decided to go in and see what it was like and I'm very pleased i did. The entry fee for adults is only £5 and for that you get a host of brilliant perfomances from one person who does an excellent job of playing a hangman, prisoner, warden and some others. Although it is a little scary at times and possibly not ideal for small children this is a brilliant experience that should not be missed if you are in Stirling. 'Meeting' all the different characters made it more fun than the usual visit to a historic building and this was definitely a visit that i will remember for a long time to come.

An unusual and memorable tour, with a good-natured guide cum actor introducing you to the jail's history and characters. Very happy to take questions and give further information too. Tangible sense of what it would have been like to be incarcerated in the jail as a prisoner. Don't miss the historical graffiti on the doors of some of the untouched cells left in their "as found" state. The view from the viewing platform of the tower is superb - full circle of Stirling and its surrounds - do take a camera! (Learned that the jail only reopened through the initiative of enterprising individuals; seems that Stirling Council and VisitScotland were incapable of maintaining what was, until just a few years ago, a five star attraction. Well done to those concerned getting the jail opened again for this summer season.)
