“Visit on a Sunday...never order steak here!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

I really like this pub, used to live around the corner so would visit for lunch and sometimes dinner. You need to go on a Sunday because the gravy is the best I've ever had. Sounds like an exaggeration but this is my favourite thing about this place, not many proper pubs do real gravy. Faggots are always a winner, as are the homemade burgers and baguettes. Worst thing I ever did was order a steak, looked and tasted like dog food. Not going to lie but this isn't the cleanest pub (anyone can bring their dog), and the tables are quite dreary. Still love this place though, it is proper pub food with lovely beer at a good price which is all I look for in a pub. Brothers own this place, the otley and the bunch of grapes...so I would pick this place over the bunch simply for the fact rickards is less pretentious, of equal quality and better value (much cheaper than bunch).

“BEER FINE FOOD NOT”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2013

A pretty quiet pub, not favoured by students. The staff are friendly and the beer choice and quality fine. The food is expensive for what it is and my steak meal was rather disappointing.

“Good hearty homestyle cooking!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

Good hearty homestyle cooking is what you get at this busy friendly pub. Sunday lunches are small , medium or large. 9 different vegetables and the meat is cooked perfectly and all this with a bucket of delicious gravy. No need to book usually and serves till 6. Tues and Thurs 2 for 1 specials . Try the ham, egg and chips.MMM ! Or Faggots and peas MM MMM ! Great value!

“Hidden hot spot!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

Yesterday was the coolest day in the current heat wave sweeping Wales. My friend & I though it would be the perfect day to take our miniture dogs out for a stroll together. The Rickards Arms welcomed us & our pooches with open arms. We made our way thought the lovely pub up to the tight spiral stairs leading up to the beer garden. The dogs were completly at home with the staff & punters, the food was amazing and very quickly served to us. I really cannot say a bad thing about them. Beautiful setting, helpfull staff & very resonable prices with a sun trap beer garden. A lovely way to kill a few hours

“Not entirely satisfactory”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

6 of us had Sunday lunch here today, between us we had beef, lamb or pork. Plenty of vegetables and gravy, nice tender beef, pork was ok but lamb tasted bland and had the texture of cardboard, really inedible.
The Rickards has a few decent beers and it's a clean, reasonably comfortable pub.
The staff are friendly & helpful and the service good.
The price total for 6 of us was a very good £54 (& that included a drink each) and we had free desserts because of the poor quality of the lamb.
I'd go back there for a meal and try a steak maybe but there are better meals to be had elsewhere i have to say based on this visit.
