“moody workers”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

Not very nice workers on a university drop off to Cardiff wasn't very central but that's our fault after returning at half six (half an hour before the spa and pool closed) and were met by very hostile staff refusing to let us enter because they couldn't be bothered ONE WORD LAZY

for a room for four in a family room there was a double, single and a pop up bed which was creaky and uncomfortable which is absolutely appalling.

Back wifi in room 101 swell.

As you can see from the majority of reviews on Tripadvisor the negative feedback very rarely regards the staff employed here.
I cannot understand why a member of staff would refuse you entry to the Pulse Health and Leisure Club at 6.30pm as it does not close until 10pm on weekdays and 8pm on weekends. Also if there had been an issue with the extra bed you had requested in your room and a member staff had been informed you were unhappy, we would have changed it for you. Unfortunately, you did not give us that opportunity.

Kind regards

Stayed for a night during an unplanned trip to Wales. The hotel was occupied by a local wedding party, adding a lot of local character to the place.
Room was tiny but sufficient, the slanted ceiling had a little skylight providing light and fresh air.
Location is right next to the Rhondda Valey Heritage park and mining museum which made for a very interesting visit.
If you are looking for luxury - this is not the hotel for you. Restaurant is decent, providing standard British fare. Hotel employees are courteous and helpful, but very informal (euphemism for young and open).
Lobby/bar area is comfortable and inviting and very dimly lit (which is probably a good thing).
Overall, came in expecting very little and was pleasantly surprised by the authentic feel and local color.

We had a lovely stay here overnight on 24th October. We'd spent the day sightseeing in the Rhondda Valley and the hotel was a convenient stopover en-route home. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make us welcome and ensure that our stay was pleasant. It was our wedding anniversary and the restaurant waiter and waitress made our evening a special one. The food was excellent and of a high standard, with a good choice on the menu. The service was impeccable. Our room was clean, spacious and quiet - although this was mid week with no events on at the hotel - only business people staying. The pool facilities were dated but it didn't spoil our swim. As seasoned travellers we have stayed in many, many hotels the world over and you get what you pay for – on this occasion it proved excellent value for money and we would certainly stay again.

Stayed at this hotel as friends held there wedding reception there, found to be very dated throughout the room we had was not clean the bathroom was disgusting the tiles were dirty the bed was broken and there was no sky tv just the standard tv channels, the tv remote would only work if you were stood directy in front of the tv, we pain £70 pound for this room it was worth only £50 pound max, breakfast was terrible not cooked fresh it was self serve and the food was sweating in the tins that kept them warm, we wouldn't stay here again really needs a refit to bring it upto date.

Room Tip: Don't stay there.

We stayed at the Heritage Park for 2 nights after dropping son at university in Pontypridd. Booked last minute through Laterooms.com we had a 2 night break for £170.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was easy to find and in a great location for visiting the area.

The room was spacious and clean though operation of the shower was confusing.

Service in the restaurant/dining room was good, meals plentiful. I would have liked a fried egg for breakfast, perhaps I should have asked.

I would not be put off by others petty, negative comments. Its a base for sleeping and eating. If you want to spend time looking for fault rather than enjoying your holiday this really confuses me why people leave home.

Will definitely stay again.

Stayed at the hotel for a family wedding , over a friday and saturday night !
The hotel staff were overall friendly, helpful and always eager to please, nothing was too much trouble. However the fabric of the building itself was showing its age and was looking weatherworn in places. The pool/sauna/fitness area was the prime example of this, the changing rooms looked shoddy and dirty, with a hole in the ceiling. Bottles of chemicals were sitting around, the walls showed signs of mould, inside, and rot outside. In several places the carpets had holes, door handles were bent and broken. Our room itself was generally in good repair but was minimalistic ally furnished and tea coffee etc was not replenished on the second day!
The standard of the food in the restaurant was very high in the evening, the service was excellent as well, and good at breakfast which was a pretty standard buffet!
Noise was an issue on the saturday evening as there were 2 functions going on, neither of which I was informed of when booking only a short time before. Whilst I would still have stayed I would have asked for a room away from the hotel entrance where people congregated to smoke and wait for their taxis.
The 3 certificates behind reception sum up that the hotel is capable of, they are 3 awards but, sadly, all dating from 10 years ago !

Room Tip: check for functions taking place !

After reading some of the earlier reviews I was a little concerned I wanted to book just one night near the Brecon Beacons to have a break with my grown up family. We were able to explore the area and visit the Brecon railway we were then pleased to find that the hotel was only 30 minutes away from the area we had been exploring. Arrived mid afternoon during a quiet spell and took a little while to book in due to staff having other jobs to attend to but staff were friendly and helpful. Booked for an evening meal and what a delight, there were five adults so we had plenty of chance to sample a wide range from the menu and everything we had was well prepared reasonable priced and plentiful. Well done to the kitchen an excellent meal much enjoyed by all of us.

Room Tip: We did not use the spa so can not in fairness comment but it did look very inviting
