“Another great weekend...”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Just returned from another lovely weekend in Pembroke staying at Cwmwennol. As usual, Vicky, Roy, Roger and other staff made our weekend truly relaxing and enjoyable.

As we usually get out and about a lot we have never tried any of the evening meals on offer (breakfast is superb with an amazing amount of quality options) but we did try the Lamb Roast on the last evening of our stay this time. It was probably the best 'cooked dinner' we have ever eaten in recent memory. Can't wait to go back and try other options on the menu next time around - whether we stay there or not (we have a static caravan in the locality that was occupied by friends on the weekend we stayed).

If you have dogs and are looking for an exceptional B&B (or county house...) in a great location look no further. We find it to be great value too.

If I have one criticism, Vodafone and Three do not work there (although I can get some signal in the car park), but as this is totally beyond the control of the owners the criticism is of the mobile network providers! Wi-Fi works in all places inside that I tried and they have a telephone land line that we were able to use for taxi's so all good ! Actually, thinking about it, NOT having a mobile signal made the weekend better....

Highly recommended for all but especially anyone travelling with a dog or two.

Room Tip: The rooms we have stayed in (1,2 & 3) are more than adequate in our experience. If you prefe...

Fun, quirky, friendly hotel who really welcome dogs. The food, both breakfast & dinner, are excellent, with a good choice of wines & other drinks. In the evening you can watch the badgers feeding from seating in the bar. The rooms are small but clean & the towels are a joy. Vicky & Roy make you very welcome & are excellent company in the evening.

My husband and I stayed at Cwmwennol Country House for 3 nights in the middle of February. I hadn't looked at the previous reviews as I like to make my own mind up.

The room: It was basic but clean with everything we needed. The bed was very comfy, we slept well. There was no hairdryer in the room - having to ask if you needed one - I would've preferred to have had one in the room already. The towels were of a great size - I know this sounds odd, but we have stayed in lots of places where the bath towels literally just cover your bum! So nice to have a decent sized towel.

Breakfast: WOW! Fantastic choice. Joe and I have stayed in quite a few B&Bs over the last few years and we certainly would rate this one of the best selections for brekkie. There was 4 juices to choose from, Gluten free muesli, lots of fresh fruit - which looked SO appealing, Strawberries and a huge bowl of nuts and mixed dried fruit, yogurts and various boxed cereals which were ALL in date! The cooked breakfast was lovely. The staff were great, fetching toast, tea & coffee and making sure we had everything we wanted or needed.

Misc: We loved the bar being on site. This really is a plus side, being able to enjoy a drink in the evening. The bar itself is well stocked and there are lots of magazines and things to look at and do if watching the badgers isn't for you. We enjoyed sitting in the annexe watching the foxes and badgers this was a great feature of our stay and I know it would appeal to many. We ate at the hotel on our last night and the food was brilliant. Freshly cooked and tasted amazing. We were gutted we hadn't eaten in before.

Dogs: The dogs were made to feel v.welcome and not in the way. This is great, we have often stayed in places where they say "dog friendly" and you can't relax - definitely not the case here. Our 2 dogs are generally well behaved, so were fine in the bar area with the owners dogs and dogs belonging to any guests.

We had a wonderful few days in South Wales and there really isn't anything bad to say about Cwmwennol House. The luxury part for us was seeing the badgers, being in such a beautiful surroundings and the rules about the dogs being quite relaxed. Thanks for our stay.

We did stay here for a weekend break. The title of "Country House" is not merited since we had a small bedroom with a very small on suite bathroom similar to a budget hotel. The bathroom was no more than one meter in width with only a shower and no bath. The price was a little high for a low season accommodation. The positives are a really excellent Full English .Breakfast with a full range of options, one of best I have seen in some time. The hotel is dog friendly for dog owners. The hotel is located right next to a caravan park. The hotel has a sheltered garden where they feed foxes and badgers in the evening.

Just returned from another great stay at Cwmwennol, the hotel was quite busy all week with guests coming and going on different length stays and to be quite truthful I never heard one negative comment. Cwmwennol is what it is it never was and never will be 5 star, on the web site it clearly states that they accommodate dogs so the odd hair is to be expected but the place is certainly not covered in them and another gripe that seems to appear on a regular basis is cobwebs and spiders well sorry peeps the hotel is set in woodland so unless you keep all the windows and doors shut the ingress of the creepy crawly,s is inevitable.
The menu has been revised since our last visit and and we could not fault it both well cooked and presented and the portions are more than plentiful, this week we have had a roast diner, steak, lamb shank, duck breast and various pieces of fish........ no choice there then !!!!
Breakfast was also well catered for from a full breakfast to scrambled egg and smoked salmon.
Vicki and Roy spend most evenings in the bar and are entertaining they are very well travelled people who love the company of their guests and enjoy both sharing and listening to the days events over a drink or two.
To be totally honest there is no hotel anywhere in the world that is going to suit every visitor so you can only take things at face value but we have stayed in places a lot more expensive than Cwmwennol and been disappointed.
This hotel is no all sing dancing modern jobby but instead offers homely comfortable accommodation where people go back again and again because it,s like going home, Vicki and Roy are concerned about negative comments on trip advisor (as are all hotel owners) and I believe all of them deserve the chance to put things right at the time not weeks later from somebody hiding behind a username.

For anyone who likes to feel at home, enjoys interesting banter over drinks in the bar, appreciates good-quality home-cooked food and loves dogs, this hotel is a treat! I have stayed here a few times and my parents visit about three times a year (even though their last dog has died, they return). Because of my work, I stay in some of the most luxurious and sumptuous hotels in the world. This hotel does not fit into this category but I absolutely love it and regularly recommend it to my friends. I always hate leaving and wish I was there for longer. There are always interesting fellow-guests to chat to and have a laugh with. I tend to have most or all of my dinners there, the breakfasts are second-to-none and the hosts, Vicky and Roy, are fascinating people, great fun, truly hospitable and also have interesting drinks on offer to try in the bar! Roger, chef and barman, is well-travelled and has interesting tales to tell as he pours the drinks and the other staff are very friendly and efficient. Badgers and foxes come to eat in their garden every night and it's great fun to congregate with other guests and watch these animals (from a darkened annexe of the bar, so as not to disturb them). The ambience of this place and the gorgeous dogs who join their owners in the bar make it for me and it is in a very picturesque setting in a wood (excellent for a good night's sleep!) close to the centre of Saundersfoot and Tenby. I only left yesterday and am already looking forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: They have a chalet right next to the hotel if you want more room and a kitchen (+ an additional sing...

We read a lot of mixed reviews about this hotel but decided to go on our gut instinct anyway

This hotel is dog friendly, we took our dog, who is quite large and there were other residents with dogs too. the owners Roy and Vicky have Dalmatian dogs and one of them is usually in the lounge and is quite friendly

Roy and Vicky and their staff are very friendly and accommodating. There are some bad review about the hotel, but this is Roy and Vicky's home and as such you get the feeling that they want to be involved and make you feel comfortable. We enjoyed their company and conversation in the evenings. Roger the chef and barman was also very friendly and accommodating.

Agreed that the hotel is quite dated and could do with a face lift but it is clean and homely. It has everything that we needed, a good clean comfortable bed, good shower, lovely thick towels and a tv in the room.

It was great to be able to see badgers in the evenings, there is a large picture window in the bar that you can sit at and watch them for hours,

Although dogs are allowed at the hotel, they are not allowed in the dining room but are allowed in the bar. We had a fantastic meal and my husband chose from the bar menu and I chose from the dining room menu, but we ate in the bar so the dog could be with us. The vegetarian Lasagne and Veggie chilli were some of the best we've ever eaten.

we loved the atmosphere at Cumwennol and feel the other residents must have felt the same as everyone was chatty and friendly, which we don't often find in big corporate type hotels.

Breakfast is of the highest standard. Fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, cereal and a great range of cooked.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and certainly are planning on returning if they would have us.

Room Tip: our room overlooked the garden, it was clean and big enough for our requirements, I do not know what...
