“Very good value”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

My wife & I spent a night at Merlewood Hotel at the end of May. I have no complaints at all. The price we paid was very reasonable, the room was of a good standard & the location is almost perfect. Saundersfoot is a short walk (5-10 mins). As Merlewood is on the top of a hill, you walk down the hill into Saundersfoot but you have to walk back up it to get back. It's fine if you are fit & healthy but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone who has difficulty walking. We will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: If you are planning on eating out in a Saundersfoot restaurant, it is advisable to book well in adva...

A clean and well-run hotel. Nothing too much trouble for some hard-working and very pleasant staff.
Not posh at all - quite basic but not tatty and a nice place to be.
The view from the bar area and pool are stunning!

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday at this Hotel ( June 21st - 27th) with a Shearings Coach holiday. We had a spacious double room, recently refurnished and spotlessly clean The Dining room and the meals were fine. The cooked breakfast every day with cereals, yoghurts, fruit juice and toast was great. The evening meals had a very good choice and always a fish dish was included.
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Steve and his sister Helen. It is a 2 star Hotel but really deserves to be at least a 3 star. The swimming pool and terraces were a delight to sit around and the weather was perfect.
It was very nice of the Hotel staff to wave us goodbye when the coach left.

This hotel has obviously been refurbished and redecorated recently. My (single) room was a reasonable size. The furniture was a little bit tired and dated but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was modern and had a large window so it was light and had plenty of fresh air. The meals were very good; the cooked breakfast included fried bread which is a rarity nowadays and there seemed to be an endless supply of toast coming out of the kitchen. What really raises the hotel above the average is the staff. Every member of staff is friendly, happy and helpful. I got the impression they really enjoy working at the Merlewood and this is reflected in the way they treat guests. The hotel is at the top of a hill so it's a bit of a slog walking back up from the town but Saundersfoot is a nice little place and a good starting point for visiting lots of places of interest. Highly recommended.

I decided to stay an extra night in Saundersfoot and took a single at the Merlewood. The room was a decent size, with a view over rooftops to the bay, a comfortable bed, and a very clean bathroom! Friendly and helpful reception, and, most importantly, when my booked taxi for the train didn't arrive, the owner/manager (?) jumped in her car and delivered me in good time. Phew! Thank you!

We called into the Merlewood on the offchance and were lucky to get a room. Large double room with very comfortable bed and excellent shower room. Everything spotlessly clean, modern and contemporary. The dining room was bright and clean, and the function room has a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and views of the bay. All in all, you could imagine yourself in any continental resort, reminded us of Italy with the sea sparkling in the distance. We liked it so much we wanted a second night and luckily the hotel was able to accommodate us.

Price was £89 per night for the room that we had. Very reasonable, bearing in mind the standard - supposedly a 2 star hotel but we thought it merited more!

We will be back.

We booked this hotel on an off chance and all in all found it very pleasant. Beautiful views from the dining room area. In my opinion it would benefit from a bit of re decoration to breath the life back the place and earn the price tag. With the exception of one, the staff were friendly and approachable. Within walking distance of Saundersfoot front its a perfectly placed stay.
