“Noisy Hotel for party goers ?”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

I spent 3 nights in this hotel, part of a group of 20 nature-lovers. Walking the beautiful Welsh coastline and interiour.
The first thing I saw as we arrived was that the hotel is situated close to the gambling hall and other noisy places. I had a room at the front, even though I specifically asked for a quiet room at the back. Terrible noise of passing traffic. The manager stated that all the rooms were full, although a notice "vacancies" was outside the door..... Another member of the group, who had not asked for a quiet room, did get a room at the back.... In the end our driver offered to swap rooms with me.
That helped. Then i only heard the noise from the kitchen-ventilation, which stopped when kitchen closed, well before bed-time.
I heard another member of the group who told the manager that she was troubled bij noises outside her room. Without checking wat it was, the manager denied what she said. It is a pity that this manager is not able to take feed-back seriously. His only reaction was negative defence.
Than the meals that were served. I had vegetarian food. It was all very tasteless and bland. Breakfast was okay. One of the staff did a good job, when serving us. He was fun.
All in all I was glad to see the back of this hotel and glad that we were moving on.
When I heard that once a year the hotel is taken over by a Harley Davidson club, I realised that that would be apropriate for this hotel. People who don't mind lots of noise and have not many demands as to food etc.

Room Tip: If you prefer a quiet room, specifically ask for a room at the back of the hotel and not on the top...

We at The Gower Hotel are extremely surprised at the negative comments that have come from some of this one particular group. We welcome all feed back , good or bad. However on this occasion we will only consider a dignified response. At no time were these complaints or issues relied to staff or management. The owners personal mobile phone number is displayed in each room , no calls to this number were made. The tour operator was extremely impressed with the hotel. We are contacting the tour operators directly and will consider our position before entering into further discussions. These allegations are unfounded and untrue. Thank you for taking the time to read this response . The Harley Davidson group we would add are part of a Hollywood film crew and are very welcome here.

Visited this hotel with my husband and a group of fellow travellers.First thing i noticed was the fact the heating was switched on in the hallways. Total waste of energy at this time of the year. As not much is worth mentioning about the rooms (beds are okay) i will give some info about the food. And horrible the food was if you decide to go for the vegetarian option. Being in a group we had a set menu and the hotel decided to put a similar veggie dish on the menu twice in three days. Rice with some veg topped with cheese and baked for a short time is NOT an acceptable veggie dish for a hotel. Like everybody else also vegetarians expect something tasteful to eat but this dish was bland and uninspired. Same goes for the 100% bland pasta dish that could be found on the fixed menu for day 2. Boring!
The hotel being a rather noisy place (hotel sounds all around) made me fear a long sleepless night but i did sleep fine.Time for breakfast. But what a shock and horror!Every ingredient in the Welsh full breakfast was killed in oil! Ofcourse again i only went for the veggie stuff.Poor mushrooms! Soaked in greasy oil and therefore inedible. My tip: slice them, use real butter and add some salt and pepper (this is how they are served all over the UK).
My other suggestion is to please buy a good veggie cookbook and find out how good a veggie dish can taste if you make an effort.

We spent three days in this hotel. The heating was on? Leaving the rooms too warm. No fridges in the room. Very noisy caused by drunk people outside but also by noisy hotel noices, Management said all was normal, our group of twenty had more than one complaint. This is a kitchen wher food is warmed up but no cooking takes place. The quality was not bad but nothing tasted good.
Not to be recommended unless you like being drunk.
Will upload some bathroom pics when we get home (nasty).
Beds were lined with plastic, adding to the unconfortness.

Positive note, staff is very friendly.

Just as a quick response to this review, we would like to say that the heating WAS NOT ON!! It is the summer and weather is very humid!! This is a busy seaside resort and it is the summer. That having been said, the only sound is the occasional car going past and obviously, as a sea-side resort we do have passing revellers - which are beyond our control.

The accusation of the food not being cooked is an insult to our excellent chefs, who receive high praise on a daily basis. Not one complaint was made about the food at the time of the visit. Anyone is welcome at any time to see our chefs at work and view our immaculate levels of hygiene. To say that the quality of food was not bad but nothing tasted good and the food is only heated up is nonsense. We are not sure what the drunk reference refers to as this party were the only people, except for one lovely family, present at the hotel???

The plastic sheeting is placed on the bed for hygiene purposes and can be removed as suits the guest. Again, nothing was said to us at the time. Every effort was made to look after this party, even to the point of visiting the local supermarket to see if we could obtain a favourite beverage of one of the guests.

The rooms have mould in the bathroom. Are very dated what you would expect in a 25 pound b&b ive stayed in a lot of hotel's with work and plesure both in the uk and abroud and this is the third worst. As others have mentioned your keys are left unattended hanging up on the unmaned reception desk for any one to help themselves. The food is undercooked and when I complained I was told the british public dont complain enough. I adked them to write in a book my food complaint so if I developed food poisoning and they replied if you do just let us know. After one nights stay i couldnt stay another night so I said id pay for the night I had but wanted the money for the next night refunded. This was refussed by the manager. So only stayed one night. Was told I should have booked a hotel in the country side. Owner would never take my call he was always on holiday. Avoid avoid avoid. Rude manager, terrible food, dated rooms, very poor sound insulation which youll find out if you stay there everyone looks shattered at breakfast time.

We are very shocked by this review and are compelled to make a response to these slanderous accusations.
Firstly, we have a very strict housekeeping regime and to suggest that the rooms (?) have mould is simply not true. Especially as this guest would not have been in any other room but their own. This is very insulting to our cleaning staff who work tirelessly to make sure that the rooms are as spotless as possible. The rooms are certainly not dated as they are updated, re-upholstered, re-carpeted and re-furbished all the time. At the present time all the bedding, carpets and mattresses are all brand new. To judge our hotel so harshly is very unusual based on our annual Certificates of Excellence from Tripadvisor and 5 star food hygiene awards and by the many hundreds of positive reviews by many many happy guests and excellent rating.

This hotel is certainly not only for the young and are very hard pushed to see why this has been written about us as the greater part of our clientele are middle aged and older married couples.

We take very seriously the security at the hotel and the only keys that are hung up are the keys for the empty rooms!! Without the keys taken by the guests they would not be able to get back into the hotel at night. The reception is manned between 7 am and midnight and also covered by CCTV and locked away when there is no-one on duty. Guests may chose to hang up their keys in the daytime and are very safe to do so as the hotel is manned at all times throughout the day and night.

The food is certainly NOT undercooked and we have an extremely highly trained team of chefs who do the hotel proud. We have a very high turnover of diners who come back to eat at our restaurant time and time again. All food problems MUST be made at the time and are dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Unfortunately no restaurant in the world is capable of delivering 100% of the food being sent out that suited 100% of the people 100% of the time and we take any (extremely rare cases) very seriously. Customer satisfaction is our utmost priority as you will see from our other reviews. Complaints that are made after the meal are too late for us to be able to deal with satisfactorily. To insinuate that anyone would ever get food poisoning is quite frankly very insulting and slanderous. Our food hygiene certificates are perfect and our kitchen is immaculately clean.

On the subject of refunds. We have a strict cancellation policy and deposits and short notice cancellations cannot be refunded as per the confirmation terms of agreement. It is for this reason we include in the terms and conditions that we advise each paying guest to take out third party holiday insurance in the event of an unforseen circumstance. This is written in red and in bold type in our terms and conditions.

Lastly, if any our our guests look shattered at breakfast time it is due to the wonderful time they have had in Pembrokeshire and certainly nothing to due with the hotel.

We recently had a one night stay while touring on our bikes. The room we had was very small, but this did not matter has we were only staying the one night. The furniture in our room is getting a bit shabby and it wasn't spotlessly clean but clean enough. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a delicious meal in the orangery, and the breakfast was very nice. It is ideally situated but our room was at the front and it was a saturday night and there was a lot of noise from the nearby nightclub probably other nights this might not be a problem.i would stay here again if in this area.

Stayed here for one night on the 1st june 2013
lovely warm welcome
found the hotel car park v.easy
they let us book in early as we arrived before 2pm
the hotel perhaps a little dated in the room we had, old pine beds and furniture!
we had everything we needed bath, shower, tea and coffee......
breakfast was great all cooked brilliant endless supply of juice coffee.... stunning we could hardly walk after!
we had a family room two single beds and a double, room 35, shame we couldn't see the sea though :(
the cleaners look as if they need a few more basic skills as we had hairs in the bath, cobwebs and a half vacumed floor! it only took a few mins for me to clean the bath and cobwebs though!
would stay again if needing a family room but would get something a bit more modern for a romantic break
resturant looked fab, really posh nosh we regret not trying it now

Room Tip: front of hotel has sea views rear has car park

Lovely sized rooms, friendly welcome and ver accommodating to my dietary needs (coeliac). Family above us were very noisy throughout the night so not a great sleep (or it would have been 5 dots). We were there to celebrate my father in law's 80th birthday and they couldn't do enough to make him, and us, feel welcome. Sunday lunch was amazing, although I'd have sold my granny for. Bit of crackling to go along with the delicious pork. Would def visit again. :-) x

Room Tip: Phone direct if you have any special needs: very helpful.
