Loved our stay here :o) staff were happy and helpful, hotel clean and tidy. Our room was great and the bathroom was lush. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel's location was brilliant. A suitable choice for all, we will definitely be coming back. Cannot understand previous negative reviews at all!!

We booked this hotel after a telephone enquiry into whether or not they had separate adjoining family rooms, as we have two very young children. We were told that they did have two rooms adjoining so we booked for one nights stay peak time.
We arrived in saundersfoot, which is beautiful, and took the children to the beach.
We then checked into our 'family room' at the gower. As soon as we opened the door we could clearly see that all of our family would be sharing the same room. There were two single beds and one double in the same room. NOT WHAT WE HAD ASKED FOR.
As we dicussed what to do, our two year old investigated more! As he opened one of the bedside units the knob came off in his hand, exposing a 2inch screw covered in silver baking foil. The other three knobs were the same! (very safe for toddlers)
There were no electrical covers in any of the sockets, two of which were right above the head of the bed, again perfect for little fingers!
The most worrying thing wasthee window, it had no safety lock, which meant the window, above the bed, could be opened, wide open. As we were two floors up we decided that this was not acceptable for us to stay securely and safely as a young family.
The floor was dirty, covered in bits, and I would not let my 8 month old down to crawl.
We went down stairs to complain about the misleading information which led us to book and also that the room was unsafe for small children to be in.
The standards for the 'family room' were not acceptable.
The manager was very dismissive, rude, and unapologetic with all of our issues.
We stated that we weren't prepared to stay overnight with our young family, as it was unsafe, and she said that was our decision but we still has to pay for the room.
As we were having this discussion a passerby entered and asked for a room, in which she replied, we are fully booked. She could of clearly given that room to a new customer and allowed us to lose our deposit. She was not at all prepared to this and when it was suggested she stated that my husband had an attitude. As we had booked the room we must pay for it.
We did not stat at the gower and nor will we ever again, our family and friends were appalled by the safety issues, which we have photos of, and will also no return.
We then paid for alternative accommodation for the night, but at least we slept safely and soundly!

We didn't have a sea view room because we booked last minute and our outlook was a wall! The hotel is only a very short walk from the beach. Can't fault the friendly staff and we enjoyed meals in the Orangery Restaurant.

I spent 3 nights in this hotel, part of a group of 20 nature-lovers. Walking the beautiful Welsh coastline and interiour.
The first thing I saw as we arrived was that the hotel is situated close to the gambling hall and other noisy places. I had a room at the front, even though I specifically asked for a quiet room at the back. Terrible noise of passing traffic. The manager stated that all the rooms were full, although a notice "vacancies" was outside the door..... Another member of the group, who had not asked for a quiet room, did get a room at the back.... In the end our driver offered to swap rooms with me.
That helped. Then i only heard the noise from the kitchen-ventilation, which stopped when kitchen closed, well before bed-time.
I heard another member of the group who told the manager that she was troubled bij noises outside her room. Without checking wat it was, the manager denied what she said. It is a pity that this manager is not able to take feed-back seriously. His only reaction was negative defence.
Than the meals that were served. I had vegetarian food. It was all very tasteless and bland. Breakfast was okay. One of the staff did a good job, when serving us. He was fun.
All in all I was glad to see the back of this hotel and glad that we were moving on.
When I heard that once a year the hotel is taken over by a Harley Davidson club, I realised that that would be apropriate for this hotel. People who don't mind lots of noise and have not many demands as to food etc.

Room Tip: If you prefer a quiet room, specifically ask for a room at the back of the hotel and not on the top...

We at The Gower Hotel are extremely surprised at the negative comments that have come from some of this one particular group. We welcome all feed back , good or bad. However on this occasion we will only consider a dignified response. At no time were these complaints or issues relied to staff or management. The owners personal mobile phone number is displayed in each room , no calls to this number were made. The tour operator was extremely impressed with the hotel. We are contacting the tour operators directly and will consider our position before entering into further discussions. These allegations are unfounded and untrue. Thank you for taking the time to read this response . The Harley Davidson group we would add are part of a Hollywood film crew and are very welcome here.

Visited this hotel with my husband and a group of fellow travellers.First thing i noticed was the fact the heating was switched on in the hallways. Total waste of energy at this time of the year. As not much is worth mentioning about the rooms (beds are okay) i will give some info about the food. And horrible the food was if you decide to go for the vegetarian option. Being in a group we had a set menu and the hotel decided to put a similar veggie dish on the menu twice in three days. Rice with some veg topped with cheese and baked for a short time is NOT an acceptable veggie dish for a hotel. Like everybody else also vegetarians expect something tasteful to eat but this dish was bland and uninspired. Same goes for the 100% bland pasta dish that could be found on the fixed menu for day 2. Boring!
The hotel being a rather noisy place (hotel sounds all around) made me fear a long sleepless night but i did sleep fine.Time for breakfast. But what a shock and horror!Every ingredient in the Welsh full breakfast was killed in oil! Ofcourse again i only went for the veggie stuff.Poor mushrooms! Soaked in greasy oil and therefore inedible. My tip: slice them, use real butter and add some salt and pepper (this is how they are served all over the UK).
My other suggestion is to please buy a good veggie cookbook and find out how good a veggie dish can taste if you make an effort.

We spent three days in this hotel. The heating was on? Leaving the rooms too warm. No fridges in the room. Very noisy caused by drunk people outside but also by noisy hotel noices, Management said all was normal, our group of twenty had more than one complaint. This is a kitchen wher food is warmed up but no cooking takes place. The quality was not bad but nothing tasted good.
Not to be recommended unless you like being drunk.
Will upload some bathroom pics when we get home (nasty).
Beds were lined with plastic, adding to the unconfortness.

Positive note, staff is very friendly.

TheGowerHotel, Public Relations Manager at The Gower Hotel and Orangery Restaurant, responded to this reviewResponded 2 July 2013

Just as a quick response to this review, we would like to say that the heating WAS NOT ON!! It is the summer and weather is very humid!! This is a busy seaside resort and it is the summer. That having been said, the only sound is the occasional car going past and obviously, as a sea-side resort we do have passing revellers - which are beyond our control.

The accusation of the food not being cooked is an insult to our excellent chefs, who receive high praise on a daily basis. Not one complaint was made about the food at the time of the visit. Anyone is welcome at any time to see our chefs at work and view our immaculate levels of hygiene. To say that the quality of food was not bad but nothing tasted good and the food is only heated up is nonsense. We are not sure what the drunk reference refers to as this party were the only people, except for one lovely family, present at the hotel???

The plastic sheeting is placed on the bed for hygiene purposes and can be removed as suits the guest. Again, nothing was said to us at the time. Every effort was made to look after this party, even to the point of visiting the local supermarket to see if we could obtain a favourite beverage of one of the guests.
