We stayed in The Hayloft which is a self catering cottage (there are also BnB rooms) - it was a great week - we had such fun in North Yorkshire (despite the weather) but our enjoyment was also due to the superb accommodation. This is simply THE BEST cottage we have ever stayed in - everything is thought of - a kitchen where it is actually easy to produce holiday meals (it is better equipped than mine at home !), the basics (coffee, sauce etc) are in spotlessly clean containers and the most wonderful breakfast hamper with free range eggs, sausages, bacon, orange juice. Beds are comfortable, the cottage has great heating PLUS a wood fire, bathrooms have underfloor heating plus heated towel rails, washing machine and an outside line to dry. A pile of recent hardcover books, warm throws and squashy comfortable couches make it hard to even venture outside in the gorgeous garden with comfy outside couches. The guest information book is superb - a list of local inns with driving and walking times, local walks and things to do. A week was not long enough. Thank you Caroline and Phil for a really wonderful week to end our holiday.

Room Tip: The Hayloft which is the self catering cottage with 2 bedrooms is superb

We enjoyed a week stay at The Hayloft cottage; just wished it could have been longer.
It is obvious that Caroline and Phil have given much thought to the comfort of their guests – you want for nothing.

The Hayloft is in a quiet country location, has a modern interior with charming décor, and has every amenity to please the most discerning guests, from the wonderful welcome basket for a delicious breakfast, to the cozy throws, books, DVDs. Just bring yourselves, everything else is provided. The cottage is impeccable!

Thank you, Caroline and Phil, for the warm welcome, the privacy of the cottage, and the peace and quiet of Flamborough Rigg.

We have just returned from a week’s stay over the New Year period in the Hayloft and have loved every minute of it! The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm and cosy with a wonderful wood burning stove, which made those lazy evening reading with our feet up, just that bit more special.
This was our first time away with our 6 month old puppy and we were delighted to find that dog friendly, did not mean that the cottage was not beautifully furnished and fully equipped. Caroline and Phil have thought of everything possible to make your stay comfortable, even down to the tastefully dressed Christmas tree. There eye for detail is evident everywhere.
Although we ate out at some of the fine local pub restaurants, we did cook quite a few meals ourselves, and the again the kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. There are even a number of cook books in case you need inspiration!
Having such wonderful walks and lovely scenery on the doorstep was such a bonus and although we ventured further afield across the moors to Whitby, we were just as happy staying close to the cottage, which is far enough away from busy roads and people to give you that ‘away from it all’ feeling, yet still being perfectly located for exploring the moors and plenty of local amenities and activities.
We certainly intend to return and experience a different season in the cottage and thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat, and especially dog owners.

My wife and I spent four days here in late August, we wanted to see the glorious display of heather on the North Yorkshire moors. From the moment we arrived Philip and Caroline could not have been better hosts - the room was well furnished, the breakfasts were truly excellent, and the location of the cottage was ideal for exploring the moors. It happened to be leading up the August bank holiday weekend, and we found it impossible to get dinner reservations for the last three nights, but Caroline spent a few minutes on the phone and secured for us everything we wanted! We definitely plan to return here!

We go away every year in November for a walking holiday and stay in a cottage:Flamborough Rigg gets top marks.
Brilliant location, beautifully presented, clean, warm and cosy, with lots of extra touches that make a huge difference.
Perfect if you have a dog as they are clearly welcome and catered for.
The walking on the moor is spectacular, the pubs for lunch amazing.
Pop into the tourist office in Pickering, they are so helpful and will point out the best walks.
Also a visit to Bridgegate Chocolate, top of the hill on the left in Pickering, is a must. Its like something out of Harry Potter.
We are booking again for next year

We have just enjoyed a lovely week in the cottage and can honestly say that we cannot fault the place. The cottage was clean, immaculately presented and the information provided for guests was fantastic.

We stayed with our 4 year old labrador dog Poppy. Phil and Caroline even made sure she was catered for with blankets and a towel for muddy paws. There was a folder with maps and information about walks and local (dog friendly) pubs, as well as books and dvds for the days when the weather was not so kind to us. The attention to detail was just great.

If you want a holiday away from it all, with all the little added touches then this is the place for you.

Enjoy!

We always try and have a few days in the North Yorkshire Moors every year and this was no exception, apart from we decided we wanted to take our new dog with us and do some serious walking. We have stayed in some lovely places in the North Yorkshire Moors but this will be one that we will definately be returning to if Caroline and Phillip will have us. We decided to arrive just as the heavens opened, as we were sitting it out, Phillip appeared with two umbrellas to assist us and show us around. Flamborough Rigg is simply beautiful, attention to detail has been addressed in every way, we stayed in 'Shaw' which was well presented and extremely comfortable, even the dog had been left a drying towel for wet paws. We all settled in very quickly and enjoyed the beautiful walks in the surrounding area. Humphrey thoroughly enjoyed himself and if we walked 25 miles then he must have walked 35 miles, we were all in our element.

Breakfast was a real treat, the table was well presented and too much choice, so we just had to have everything.

Caroline and Phillip were excellent hosts, friendly and informative and we will be planning our next visit in the not too distant future.

Highly recommended, if there was a comment to make it would only be that we did not make use of the lounge area due to Humphrey not being able to join us so we watched television in our room, unfortunately our eye sight isn't what it used to be and the television could have been bigger. Apart from this, absolutely perfect.
