Having read the reviews on here there is nothing more to say about Eastgate Cottages other than have a look at the web-site. It 's a good one but better to see the cottages in the flesh. No web-site can do them justice. We have stayed at Eastgate cottages about 4 times now and keep going back for more, this time we stayed in Hartoft.
Four in a bed, on Channel 4 is sometimes watched in our house so we know what Questions to ask.
How was your welcome? 10 / 10. Elaine welcomed us with open arms and even our dog got a huge fuss. (He is an English Springer Spaniel so he did deserve it!)
How where your hosts? 10 /10. Very friendly and yet very professional. After the welcome we did not see anybody untill the end of the week, perfect, although we knew that Elaine and everyone else were not far away if there was any problems, which there wern't.
How clean was your cottage. 10 / 10. Absolutley spotless. This is where Kim & Agie learnt their trade.
How did you sleep? 10 / 10. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in (Even our own) and really huge.
How were the facilitys? 10 /10. Everything you could ever want is there, even a BBQ.
How was Breakfast? 10 / 10. Being Self Catering there was none, but Pickering and the surounding area is full of decent farmshops, bakerys, butchers, grocers etc all brimming with excellent quality food, be it stick it in the oven and heat up, BBQ or cook it from scratch if you fancy. The Kitchens are fully equipped and dont worry about the washing up as there is even a dishwasher.
Would you stay again? You Bet.

Room Tip: There are no bad cottages but if you are not sure give them a ring.

Thank you so much for the very extensive review. Loved the way it was written. We hope to see you again in the future, where perhaps you might try one of the other cottages working your way around our site.

Been coming to Eastgate for about 20 years and still enjoy it !
Been in most of the cottages on the eastgate site and also Readman, our favourite at the moment is Ellerburn ,it's very spacious and although there are only two of us we are able to spread out !!
Just wish it wasn't such a long journey, but worthwhile !!!

Great holiday cottage. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean two bedroom cottage, well appointed kitchen. Cosy lounge area with up to date and easy to use tv/dvd/wifi.
The bedrooms were traditional and quaint in decor....the beds were amazingly comfortable.
The proprietors were very friendly and helpful from the initial booking - personal touch of handmade produce on welcome tray was lovely gesture.
Enjoyed our stay at this cottage and found it very easy to relax here....a home from home!

Last year we stayed in Eastgate's Skelton Cottage at Levisham (see previous review). This year 4 of us booked Welburn, one of Eastgate's group of cottages on Eastgate in Pickering. This is 10 mins walk from the town centre, so handy that during our Fri-Mon stay we never used the cars once we arrived.

The cottages share an immaculate, ample and well-marked car park at the rear, where Eastgate's office is also situated. There's a small grassed play area, and well paved paths to each door. Each cottage has its own patio table/chairs/umbrella outside, and they all look new. Secluded from the main road and south facing, the courtyard catches the sun in the afternoon and into the evening.

Welburn is one of the cottages fronting onto Eastgate but usually accessed via the rear courtyard/car park. It is very well equipped and covers 3 floors with full central heating. For extra heating there is a log burner which we used on a couple of chilly evenings, and this throws out a tremendous amount of heat. The lounge/kitchen diner on the ground floor has 2 sofas, flat screen tv with dvd player, a cd player and everything you need in the kitchen including a dishwasher.

The first floor has a nice bright landing with an armchair, the newly refubished family bathroom and an adjoining spacious double bedroom. The latter overlooks the main road but we didn't find the noise too bad with the window slightly open overnight. The bathroom is huge and has a big P-bath with an excellent shower over it.

The top floor has a double bedroom with its own en-suite toilet/shower room.

The central heating was set to come on twice a day at the usual morning/evenings times which you would expect, but you are free to advance the settings if you require. The only one downside that we experienced was that the hot water is similarly set, which as one of us discovered does mean that if you're late risers, you may be in the middle of your shower and the hot water turns freezing cold!! Assuming that the boiler is a modern combi, I would have expected the hot water to be switched to constant as fuel would only be used when a tap is turned on anyway.

Eastgate are excellent with the amenities for their cottages which includes free wifi and free fuel for the log burner for the whole of your stay (unlike places which supply a few logs initially then charge for any extra). Their staff are very friendly and you get a warm welcome. They remembered us from our previous years booking. Nothing is too much trouble.

With the standard of their accomodation (having now seen 3 of their excellent cottages) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for year-round holidays.

Room Tip: If you do think the noise from the Eastgate traffic would disturb you sleep, opt for one of the cott...

This is very much the top end of the holiday rental market. The cottage is fitted and furnished to a high standard. It is convenient for all local ammenities. The notes from the owners in the welcome folder were particularly helpful as compared to the usual haphazard collection of leaflets which most places provide. We also like the fact that the owners are nearby which inspires confidence shoul help be needed. Christine Kelly

We stayed here over the May Bank Holiday Weekend and had a great time. The cottage is finished to really high standard and very clean. Very well equiped and decepitvely large. We recieved a warm welcome from Tony the cottage owner, who changed his plans to come and greet us when we arrived earlier than expected. The garden was perfect for the two rare warm spring evenings we had while we were there. Pickering is lovely town with plernty going on in the main street and lots of places to eat drink. Very handy too for the North Yorkshire Railway. We brought our bikes and spent a couple of days at Dalby Forest which is about 8-10 miles away. The Tourist Information Centre has brochures with vouchers in which will save £3 on the £7 entrance fee.

and and as thWell kitted out with all the appliances and comforts more you
