“Superb!”
Reviewed 16 July 2013 via mobile

This was a return visit to 17 Burgate and it still meets the high standards I tell my friends when recommending it.

On arrival we were offered tea and cake, which we were able to enjoy in the beautiful gardens at the back of the house. The rooms are furnished to a high standard and immaculate. Facilities include TV, DVD player, ipod docking station, plus a few treats.

Breakfast was freshly prepared, with cereals, fruit, yoghurt and a wide selection of hot choices. Again, high quality food to match the rest of 17 Burgate.

There is a guest lounge/bar with comfortable leather sofas and a wide selection of drinks.

Superb accommodation, in a quiet location and with easy access to many attractions in North Yorkshire.

I would happily recommend 17 Burgate to anyone.

Delighted to receive your review and see that we are maintaining the standards we have always set. It is very pleasing when inspectors confirm this to us but even more so when guests do the same. We are very proud of our 5 Gold Star rating, our TA Certificate of Excellence and our 100% satisfaction score on Late Rooms but in the end it is feedback like yours that really matters. Look forward to seeing you again in the future and once again many thanks

If you're thinking of booking this place, just go ahead. My wife and I stumbled across this B&B when we found ourself in the district. Wanting to keep prices down, we went without the breakfast. The room we had felt more like a suite. There was a nice DVD library for the TV and couch, and free, fast wifi. Beautiful bathroom. Everything spotless. Tea and cake on arrival. The owners seem to be excellent at all aspects of running this business. They were more than happy for us to use their carpark even after we had checked out. It has a beautiful garden.

Our third stay at No 17, and once again we were not disappointed. The room was beautifully decorated and wonderfully comfortable. You are always assured of a warm welcome with
attention to detail the order of the day. The choice and quality at breakfast is sure to start
the day well. For those wishing to explore the centre of Pickering, No 17's location makes it
an excellent choice also.

We had a very comfortable 4 night stay at this friendly B&B that is situated very close to all the amenities in Pickering, not that it’s a huge town anyway. Our room had an ornate bed with a two seater settee at the end that gave the room a more of a suite feeling.

Some thought had gone into how the room looked with its colours and ornate fixtures including the period fireplace. Tea and coffee was available in the room which included other drinks such as hot chocolate. If you wanted other herbal teas, they were available right outside the room. Along with the herbal teas, you could also choose from DVD’s which you can watch in your room.

The bathroom was also spotlessly clean with an endless supply of hot water that was very handy after a full day of walking in the surrounding countryside. There were also some complimentary liquid soaps and shampoos to use.

Breakfast was taken in the dining room downstairs between 8.15 and 9am. A little early for me really but might suit the early walkers that stay here. There was a good choice on offer and our vegetarian diet was easily catered for. Next door to the dining room down the hall is a comfortable reception room with a wood burning stove, books and maps which you are welcome to borrow and use. There is also a quite well stocked honesty bar that has lagers, real ales, wines and a selection of whiskies.

If you are staying in Pickering with the intention of using the steam train then the station is about a five minute walk away.

With regards to the pubs and eating out, then we did struggle a little bit with being vegetarian. There are however 3 Indian restaurants in the town and we ate at the one in the high street which I thought was pretty decent with good service and a willingness to accommodate off the menu choices.

Overall we had a pleasant stay in this B&B and would recommend it if you’re staying in the area. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the building.

enjoyed a long easter stay. Can only describe the guest house as excellent a very warm welcome, The room was very clean and warm ( considering the out side temp was 3 degrees ) The guest house is very central for all that you need in the area. you can be on the moors within minutes and the costal town of Whitby is only 20 miles away. There are numerious short and long walks close by depending on what you want. There is a good choice for breakfast and plenty of tea and coffee. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. We would highly recommend 17 Burgate

Lovely room, beautifully decorated and appointed throughout, close to town centre but quiet location, off street parking, excellent breakfast, friendly service and a very warm welcome - what more could you want?
Not the cheapest, but VERY good value - highly recommended

This was our second visit and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend 17 Burgate to anyone looking for an intimate break for 2. We stayed for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary and I was delighted to find the most beautiful bouquet of flowers and champagne on ice on our arrival ( requested by my husband) The rooms are spacious and extremely well appointed with careful attention to detail - Egyptian cotton bedding, luxury toiletries, etc which make leaving the room to explore the surrounding area a challenge. Afternoon tea and cake is a lovely touch. The breakfast is delicious. Locally sourced produce, homemade marmalade and porridge which is the best I've ever tasted. Recommendations for trips, walks, local restaurants can be sourced in abundance from the owners and nothing is too much trouble. Can't wait to return.
