Best Western Forest & Vale Hotel
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Pickering
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 16 December 2012

Stopped here for 1 night over the weekend. The hotel is located in the centre of Pickering with the main street/shops/pubs etc being only a couple of minutes walk away.
The hotel has a decent sized free car park and when we stayed there were plenty of spaces.
The receptionist was really friendly and helpful, booking us into a local restaurant and showing us to our room.
We stopped in the original part of the hotel. The room was very spacious with modern décor/bathroom/facilities. The room was spotless and was worthy of a 4* hotel. The shower is one of the best I've ever been in!
We didn't use the restaurant/bar as there are several places to eat/drink within a short walk.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. For a 3*, I rate it as excellent.

Located very convientlly with in pickering this is a very nice hotel.

The room was spacious and well appointed, check in lady was very friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was a little disappointing though. The pork belly was slightly dry and the vegetables were limp and flavourless.
The dauphinois potatoes were in actual fact just deep fried slices of potatoe.

I'd stay again but try else were for dinner

We called in on Saturday afternoon to obtain a deal for that night and were offered a superior double for the price of a standard. The room was very spacious, comfortable and warm but the highlight of our stay was the dinner. We had planned to eat out but after checking out a couple of the local inns we returned to the hotel and I am pleased we did because the food was absolutely superb. The tastiest meal I have experienced in a long time and served by friendly professional staff. And the breakfast was first class too. All together a very pleasant stay in a very pleasant hotel and very pleasant part of the country. Would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: We had room 4 which is beside the road so if you are a light sleeper may not be the best

The hotel has loads of charactor and is very well run. I found all the staff in the morning and evening very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable but could have done with a mini bar. (Just because I am used to one).
The food was also very good and I only ventured out the once to a restaurant up the road. I stayed there for a week and it was very relaxing with beatiful gardens to look out on at breakfast.

Hotel quite nice better than last time we stayed but it was difficult to access our cottage room because Painters had closed off the most convenient way to proceed also they were painting the front door without adequate warning to beware which was necessary because of the steps. The only way to the car park from our room was to walk all the way around the front of the hotel and thru a small courtyard not the best when its raining. As for the room, there was no where to hang a very large and heavy bath towel and no where for the hand towel but on top of the radiator. The kettle had to be plugged in next to the desk on the floor and then carried to the shelf where tea/coffee could be made. The breakfast was ok, bacon very salty, poached eggs underdone, fried bread fatty and cold and coffee not very flavoursome. Also a young man who served on several occassions was quite anti-social, perhaps he is in the wrong job! On the bright side the staff were very warm and friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The sort of people to have around should a problem arise. We will probably stay their again in the Springtime.

Room Tip: Ground floor cottage room had a lot of noise from the occupier above every footfall could be heard a...

We keep returning to the Forest & Vale. Pickering is ideally located to the North Yorkshire sites, including railroad, Moors, and the coast. The hotel is very central to town yet has ample on-site parking. The staff are extremely friendly and very knowledgable about the area. They enjoy helping with an ironing board or copies of tourist information. The manager is frequently about talking with the guests. Our last visit the room had been refurbished and was beautifully done. We have never been more comfortable and relaxed. Although it was not on the garden side, it was very quiet. The complimentary toiletries are the same as those of expensive hotels. We were well supplied with bottled water during our 5 day stay. The room was immaculately clean. The pub is comfy with many soft chairs. The breakfast was cooked exactly as we ordered and quite good. We look forward to visiting as we are treated like good friends!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden and a table by the window at breakfast.

Stayed here for 1 night this month with my other half when visiting family. We stayed in a standard room which was just enough for us, really comfy bed, small but adequate bathroom with bath and shower, hairdryer, usual tea and coffee facilities and room to move around in. We had a couple of drinks in the bar area and the service throughout the hotel was very good. Slept like a log and got up for a good hearty breakfast in the morning. I would definitely recommend the Forest and Vale and will return for a long weekend in the future..
