“BlackBull Pickering - rude staff”
Reviewed 5 May 2013

The first thing I need to say is that I don't normally post reviews about pubs. However, I do visit a lot and experience quite a few bar meals. This was the worst I've had for at least a year. We waited over an hour for the food to turn up with tired children. The pub is right next to caravan and lodge holiday parks and therefore has a bit of a monopoly. The worst thing was the attitude of the guy behind the bar who was not at all sympathetic - he implied it was our fault for complaining after an hour of waiting. When the food arrived it was average at best and the chicken was so dried up it was inedible. To be fair, after we had managed to get past the really rude bloke behind the bat the manager was quite fair and gave us some money off the meal. To be honest, of the bloke behind the bar had been at all apologetic we woud have left things alone and put it down to the pub having a busy night.

Visited 1st March as just picked a caravan annual pitch just across the road. Cold day and was not open till 12 noon but was invited in out of the cold. We ordered the Friday Special 1 scampi and one fish both with mushy peas and chips with a pot of tea for just £11.00 great value and nicely cooked two others in the party had the Black Bull burger both said it was tasty. Friendly landlord who was very helpful. It is doggy friendly and our dog loved laying in front of the fire while we ate our meals even a dog bowl available. Nice clean toilets and plenty of car parking. Will definitely visit again in the near future.

Visited for lunch on a Friday. Lovely pub-very homely, plenty of room & spotlessly clean. Great food. £11 for 2 fish and chips and they were delicious! Proper freshly fried fish and chips-not oven baked.
Dog friendly throughout as well. Friendly landlord.
We'll be back!

we booked a table for an evening meal as we were staying at a new log cabin site opposite. The girl on the bar was nice and helpful I ordered lasagne and was hugely disappointed as the lasagne was a small square piece in a large dish. There was the least amount of meat in it that I have ever seen! there were far too many layers of pasta (7/8) which were stuck together with hardly any meat and what red there was did not resemble mince. I did not eat it all as it tasted of just pasta (although the sauce was okay). On complaining to the bar girl she spoke to the cook who did not even bother to come out and apologise or even try to put it right and was even charged the whole amount. Sadly disappointed at the meal, the lack of apology or acknowledgement. Nice looking pub but we were the only ones in there (now I know why)

We were due to stay at this inn but unfortunately due to a burst pipe we were unable to do so. Tina arranged for us to stay in a nearby hotel. We had our evening meal at the Black Bull Inn before departing to the new accommodation the meal was excellent and very good value for money. Tina and her staff we met were very friendly.

we stopped in for our evening dinner as handy for the caravan park across the road where we go when we fancy a short break. The Inn is handy for pickering,Thornton le dale, flamingoland etc... The Inn seemed cosy and quite busy with families and children. Nice menu, not overpriced, not too long a wait for our food and I thought the steak pie was the best I have had, stacked full of meat and very tasty, veg plentiful and nicely cooked..(a bigger plate would have been better as a lot on a smallish dinnerplate) I overheard other customers compliment the food. The staff were down to earth and friendly. wouldnt hesitate to go back.
