“Dog and Vegetarian friendly.”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Friendly staff welcomed both of us and our dog. Excellent veggie option to compliment my partners Sunday roast carvery. Food was hot, tasty and plentiful. Excellent value for money, no nouvelle cuisine here, just good honest food for a very reasonable price. See you next time we're in Pickering guys. They even supplied a bowl of water for the dog, nice! ps, don't judge this place by the 70's decor, YOU DON'T EAT THAT!!!!

stayed here last night with my young son, the staff were great, very helpful and welcoming, which will be good to know for the owner as she was away, waiter very quick and the food was hot, tasty and very good value for money...room was basic but fine for what we wanted, very clean, toddler loved the corner bath, plenty of nice toiletries, towels and tea, coffee etc.. but had massive problems trying to get the toilet to flush..not good with a toddler in toilet training mode!.......A lovely touch was that i didnt want breakfast so that was taken off the bill.....so made the stay even more reasonable.....fix the loo and wd40 the bed stead would be my advice....,

We ordered Lamb shank with mash potato and vegetables cost £12.50 per plate! - neither lamb shank was adequate size (i.e. we have had more meat on a 'boil in the bag' pack from Morrisons) but one lamb shank was so small after removing the large bone and several smaller pieces, there were two small pieces of meat left and they were hard and dry on the outside. The matter was brought to the attenion of waitress, who said sorry, but nothing further happened, no member of management came to see for themselves what the problem was they just pocketed our money, daylight robbery spring to mind!

Room Tip: If you are looking for good food at a reasonable price, give this one a miss.

Popped in for dinner on our first night arriving in Pickering. We all chose haddock and chips for dinner and the food was excellent. Friendly staff who were happy to serve us our food in the beer garden.

My wife and I stayed here for 1 night due to going on the Pickering to Whitby steam train.
On arrival it was as though the owner had forgot that we were coming, We paid £65.00 for b&b for 1 night and we didn't expect much so really we shouldn't have been disappointed!!!
The Room looked over at the train station which wasn't a problem.
We was taken to our room( No 3), going up a very cluttered staircase covered in coats, shoes and dog hairs!!!.
On top of the stairs straight outside our room was 2 big dog beds with dirty blankets. The 2 dogs wasn't there when we arrived but was there all the time after.
The room itself was clean and tidy with plenty of tea, coffee, milk and sugar. But the shower/toilet was very small with a sliding door and a carpet!!, the shower only just worked and had to be hand held also a very noisy flushing toilet.
After getting changed and going in the pub for a drink and a meal (oh Thursday nights karaoke night), We ate in a small but very nice dining room and we had the Thursday night steak special = Rump steak, all the trimmings plus a bottle of wine for 2, this was very nice and the steak cooked to our liking.
The bed wasn't very comfy but we were both very tired due to a long day so we managed to sleep.
Next morning we went for breakfast in the dining room were we helped ourselves to cereal then we both had a full English breakfast which was very good with everything on it and hot.
On our vacating the room we came down stairs to find no one there and all the doors locked, we knocked on all the doors with private on them but no one answered.
The owner had taken the dogs and children out obviously she had forgot we were there again!!
We had to use a fire exit, the upstairs is no good if you are allergic to or don't like dogs as the 2 big Labradors obviously live there, even though they did seem friendly enough but did give a little bark and a fuss when we came out of our room.
We would not stay here again, but
We would defiantly recommend the food

Room Tip: Given poor for the stay Everything in the restaurant was very good

Landed in Pickering to go on the train to Whitby for the day, on returning, we noticed that The Station Hotel was advertising CHILDREN EAT FREE, wandered over from the railway and popped in and asked if the dogs were allowed in, brilliant, yes they could. The kids has scampi each, hubby had a burger and I had the sirloin, wow, it was amazing, excellent value for money, the dogs were even given water. I throughly recomend it. The waitress was lovey, very friendly, Sara, she said she was the land lady's daughter, home for summer. £9.00 for a bottle of wine and £2.75 for a pint of tetleys, good value for money.

Went with our dog and was made very welcome. The food was hot and tasty. Very well organised drinks order taken and then went up in turn for our food so no queue. A bowl was available so our dog could enjoy the leftovers. Will definitely go again when in Pickering.
