“A cosy well appointed snug”
Reviewed 30 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

A perfect little cottage, warm, comfortable and well appointed. Close to the town centre amenities, railway and an award winning pub. It doesn't get any better- will be re-booking!!!

“Home from Home”
Reviewed 25 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

This is the first time we have stayed in a holiday cottage and we were not disappointed, Kings Haven is wonderful, with such attention to detail and we would recommend to friends and family. The owners thought of everything, the welcome pack was fabulous with home made jam and sloe gin and eggs from their own hens, a lovely touch.
I usually have trouble sleeping away from home, however, this was not the case at Kings Haven. We hope to visit again!!

“Excellent”
Reviewed 19 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We often rent cottages over the new year period and Kings Haven was definitely one of the best. A common problem when you arrive, in the depths of winter, is either that the heating has been turned on an hour before you arrive or not at all and it can take 24 hours or more for the place to warm up. In this case, it was warm and cosy when we arrived and stayed that way. There was a welcome pack, which was very much appreciated, the bed was wonderfully comfortable, the kitchen facilities were more than adequate and quite new and this is obviously a place where the owners take great care in ensuring that their guests have the best of stays and all at a good price. Pickering is an interesting, friendly town, lots of pubs and cafes, the steam railway is an obvious attraction and the surrounding moors are fabulous.

the house was clean, well stocked and the welcome hamper was excellent. Cosy old fashioned cottage with some great features. Excellent location, plenty of walks near by and 45 mins away from Scarborough and Filey.

“Cosy retreat for two”
Reviewed 17 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Kings Haven is an immaculately presented, small cottage for two, just far enough from the town centre to be peaceful and to make the stroll in enjoyable .Peaceful, extremely comfortable, really well-equipped with quality fittings and furnishings, a great welcome pack: everything makes for a relaxing break in a lovely area. And if you use the NYMR to travel to Whitby, you don't even need to use your car for a few days. Our third visit, and not our last, I'm sure...

“Home from Home”
Reviewed 13 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and i stayed at this cottage for a week as she has always wanted to stay in one, and i really liked the look of it from the website, she said it was what she expected and more besides. It was a very relaxing week for us, the cottage itself was spotlessly clean and very well presented, the welcome pack was very much appreciated,it was our first time in a cottage and John and Julie have set a very high standard as nothing is too much trouble for them. I would also recommend a day trip on the steam train to Whitby, which we both enjoyed, there are also some really good places to eat in the town centre.

This was an extremely well-presented, furnished and equipped property. A welcome pack of eggs, bread, butter, fresh OJ and homemade jam was provided. John, the owner, visited a decent time after our arrival and gave us further information on the property and local amenities, which was useful.
The property is a listed building and stands on Westgate, which runs into Pickering from Thirsk. There is a comfortable lounge and separate kitchen on the ground floor with a bathroom and WC to the rear. Upstairs is a comfortable bedroom and a room with a TV and mini hi-fi system. Our only minor criticism is that hanging space for clothes in the wardrobe is a little limited.
The whole property was spotless and in good repair. Parking is to the rear at the end of a paved garden which is equipped with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue. Plenty of flowers in the hedge and a number of tubs.
In a word, faultless.
Restaurants and pubs recommended:
Cilantro. Popular pan-Asian restaurant. Good choice of dishes, friendly service, reasonably priced.
Black Swan. Massively improved since the turn of the year. Excellent Sunday lunch and evening menu. Slightly dearer than your average Harvester-type pub but brilliant, freshly cooked food. Great staff team and management and a very wide range of traditional and craft beers. Ate there three times in seven days which, for us, says it all.
The Sun Inn. Highly rated by CAMRA, good range of traditional andcraft beers, friendly atmosphere. Not much of a food pub as they have chosen to make their garden room a community resource. This ensures that the pub is well used by locals for a wide variety of activities.
