We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel. The first room we were given was room 8 which did not have a shower so we asked to move and were given room 12. This room had a shower over the bath but only just qualified as a shower.

When we arrived in the late afternoon we were planning to come down to eat at about 8:30 but were told we needed to be down for 8pm at the latest. The steak I ordered was 17.95 and very dry, and chewy.

The bed was really uncomfortable like sleeping on a bouncy castle and the pillows were terrible. The bathroom was a throw back from the 80s in a terrible green with Marble effect down the side of the bath. When going to the toilet you had to hold the seat up with one hand as it would not stay up on its own.
The 2 stars are for the pleasant and chatty girls that served on the evening and the morning. Also the breakfast was ok.

Room Tip: Look to see if the room has a shower or ask for one if required.

I absolutely hated leaving this Arcadia! The Blacksmiths was a home away from home with a few exceptions: whilst I stayed here I was well looked after, well fed and felt well cared for.
The building is cosy and considering it's location this is no small feat. The Inn is idyllic for walkers or people wishing to escape the daily grind and out of contact via mobile phone; which is extremely cathartic for the soul (WiFi is available however so don't panic if you're that way out). The rooms are well serviced, room service is available, they are cleaned daily to an exacting standard, full range of toiletries are available along with Tea and Coffee making facilities (including hot chocolate, fruit teas rooibos and decaf teas and coffees, which isn't often available according to my girlfriend) and ours had a shared balcony with wonderful views. The staff are friendly and one instantly warms towards them they seem to thrive from making you comfortable and helping you in anyway possible but none of it feels contrived. Although we regrettably never had the chance to eat there in the evening the breakfast was wonderful 'Fresh' eggs served as requested with a wonderful accompaniment of Sausage, Bacon, Black Pudding, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Toast, all of which felt as they were sourced within walking distance. The Real Ales (moving along some hours from Breakfast however if you're that way out I'm sure they'd be happy to accommodate) were well cared for. We stayed here for 4 night and will be staying here again at the next opportunity we have. It is over 7 miles out of Pickering which is the nearest town so do be aware of this! My Girlfriends criticism of here was that there were no spa treatments available which in retrospect shows the standards they are achieving here as she felt that it was up to the standards of much more expensive places we have stayed in in the past! Summary: Xanadu without back rubs!

I have just returned after a 2 night stay here, our room was excellent with lovely views of the moors.
I must say that Sam was a little star, she made us feel very special as soon as we got through the door, nothing was too much trouble, she has great knowledge of the area and would always advise on where to visit along with some short cuts on how to get there...She really does enjoy her work as do her colleagues.
The food and restaurant was lovely with a good selection of wine (by the bottle) but we were a little disappointed in the selection of real ales served.

Room Tip: room 14 is lovely

We had a weekend here in February and due to the location and time of year the hotel did not seem very busy.
The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and clean and really could not be faulted.
Great food both at breakfast and in the evening and as the place is so out on a limb there is nowhere else to eat unless you drive a fair way.
It snowed whilst we were which made the driving somewhat interesting but we still managed to drive across the top of the moors to Whitby one day.
Will probably go again.

I booked this hotel for a couple of days away with my Parents, as we were spending some time in the North York Moors. The "Standard" rooms were really excellent, and roomy, with a (shared) balcony which was a nice feature.

The hotel is about 7 miles (10-15 mins) outside Pickering, in a beautiful spot right in the middle of the moors - Fantastic views from the Dining Room!

The food was excellent throughout, with a varied menu, and a great breakfast with local
ingredients. There were three Real Ales on Tap in the bar, which was also a bonus.

What really makes this place exceptional is the service - Everyone we spoke to during our stay were friendly, efficient and proactive, and its obvious that the Blacksmiths care about their customers.

We'll be back!!! :-)

Six of us stayed in the Garden Room extension at the rear. It was a mid week break to celebrate our friendship of 30 years. We met on holiday in Kenya as 3 young couples and despite the distance between us (1 couple in Scotland, 1 in Essex and 1 sought of in the middle) we still meet up regularly.
Our 3 rooms were absolutely lovely. Clean, spacious, well appointed with french windows opening onto our sort of own private, peaceful garden. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
We only reserved a table for the first night in the restaurant as we didn't want to commit ourselves. We need not have been concerned. The food was excellent with service to match. Nothing was too much trouble. There was plenty of choice to suit all of us.
The bar has a good range of beers for those that do and lots of choice of other things for those who don't.
The Blacksmith's is situated in a quiet area on its own but very near lots of attractions and beautiful countryside. We loved it and hope your experience is just as good.

We have been here twice this year for Sunday lunch with family as my son works and lives nearby. It has the potential to be good but is lacking that final bit. Firstly Sunday Lunch is a bit of an afterthought comprising only two meat choices whilst continuing to offer their normal lunchtime menu. The food is well cooked and flavoursome but on both our visits has come out lukewarm which is disappointing. They take the time to source good local meat and then let it down by something so basic. Just need to up their game a bit and maybe concentrate more on a traditional Sunday luch menu and it could be a whole different story
