We have recently returned from our 4th trip to the FABULOUS Midland. It is a SUPERB hotel, all rooms are exceptional. The food in restaurant is always first class, I again had Blades of Beef, it is my favourite, you must try it, it really is delicious. Also food in the Rotunda Bar is fabulous.
We always enjoy our stay, as soon as we are through the door, it all feels so relaxing, and welcoming, I always feel sad when we have to leave, and so look forward to our next visit.
I would thoroughly recommend the Midland, you must give it a try, you will NOT be disappointed.
We can't wait to return......

Best Wishes to Lesley, Brian and all the lovely staff,
Lynda and Richard Barnett

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely, welcoming and clean, with lovely quirky touches...

Just back from a couple of nights with my Mum. Beautiful art deco hotel, our room was huge and well appointed. Thoughtful touches eg robes, milk in fridge, safe large enough to take laptop. Restaurant all glass walled, looking out over the pier, sea and mountains of the Lakes. Food excellent at dinner both nights. Breakfast good choice and all lovely except for the scrambled egg which was surprisingly overcooked. Staff super too. THE place to stay in the area.

As I have a relative in the town, I have visited Morecambe for some years and have stayed regularly at the Midland. It has become quite a 'friend' and somewhat of an 'oasis' and on the occasions that they are fully booked it has quite dampened my mood, as quite literally one has no comparable choice to make. The gap between the Midland and anywhere else in the locale is not small it is vast and if you are looking for a genuine 4 star hotel this is the only one. True there are other hotels in Morecambe but they are more of the type that make their money from coach trips and provide a sing song, bingo or karoake in the evening. Nothing at all wrong with that but if you are wanting a cocktail before dinner and a well prepared evening meal then the Midland is your only choice.

Much has been said about the art deco architecture and the wonderful staircase. Much has also been said about the modern, quirky but fun rooms...... all of which I agree with and find to be very positive. Equally for the past two years or so the main restaurant has become a pleasure under the current chef. His style is not complex but he use good local ingredient in interesting combinations and produces flavoursome and satisfying meals. There is not a huge selection which I find sensible and the menu is changed about three or four times a year. The wine list is excellent and laid out in price bands and is very good value when compared to London prices....until recently they had the most delicious Volnay 2005 for £55 and it drunk beautifully but alas all good things come to an end. However there are always a couple of hidden gems if one roots around enough.

The service is warm, friendly and professional but is not anything like as slick as you would find in leading London hotels. To be honest I had to get used to it , until finally the penny dropped ( I am not always as quick on the uptake as I would like !!). The Midland had taken a deliberate policy not to import highly experienced staff from other 4 or 5 star hotels but had taken the decision to employ local people and train them up. Over the years it has been interesting to see staff starting at the bottom of the ladder and developing in terms of their position and their skills. The result is staff with a wonderfully friendly attitude who will go out of their way to make ones stay pleasureable but particularly in the resturant it does not show the experience or finesse one might expect but does that matter given the attitudes are so good? Not in my view.

When we stay we usually have one of our evening meals in the Rotunda, which is a bar with a number of booths at the back. They serve excellent antipasto type platters of either fish, meat or ploughmans and have favourites such as fish & chips, steak & chips, corned beef hash & fried egg. It is very casual but a great place to relax and we often take a booth, get a bottle of wine and play some cards before ordering. We always like it when the wonderfully, friendly Ian is running the Rotunda as he provides superb service and is the perfect example of wanting to make things positive for the client.

Breakfast is a delight, especially on a sunny morning looking over to Cartmel and the mountains of the Lake District ..... is there a better coastal view in England? I doubt it. As well as the traditional English breakfast, there are Eggs Benedict, kippers and other choices to make. This is the domain of Jen, who ensures everything goes like clockwork and she is yet another example of great customer service that you know you will get at the Midland.

So if you are visiting Morecambe and want to stay at a decent hotel be warned, you have no choice it is the Midland or bust. Prices are not cheap, especially for that area but in my view they are great value for money. What you do get for your money is an iconic building, quirky but comfortable rooms, the most wonderful coastal view in England, a very good hotel resturant and a fun alternative for a more informal meal and superb customer service but don't expect slick, expect friendly and positive.

Dear StAlbansWilbo

Thank you for taking the time to post a very comprehensive review of your most recent stay at The Midland.
I was pleased to read that you continue to enjoy your time with us and please do not hesitate to get in contact prior to a future stay if there is anything we can do to ensure we continue to meet and, hopefully, exceed your expectations.
I read with interest your comments relating to our restaurant service and team and thank you for these. As you quite rightly point out the vast majority of out team members are local and and proud to work in such an iconic building. Many have been with us since the building reopened and have progressed 'through the ranks' - something we believe should always be the case as part of our commitment to training and development.
I will, of course, share your observations with my management team and hope to welcome you back soon.

Best regards

I booked my parents into The Midland for a Sunday night stay. I upgraded for a balcony and sea view. They loved the hotel, found the staff extremely friendly and helpful and their meals.

It was a special treat for a birthday and on their recommendation I will be going myself.

Room Tip: Sea view and balcony worth the extra.

The Midland is an iconic twenties hotel with great style and service. Morecambe itself isn't particularly exciting but there are so many places to visit close by - such as Lancaster which is only three miles down the road.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a sea view - the sunsets are spectacular.

We stayed at the Midland for my husbands birthday and also went for the D B and B offer. The hotel is an architectural wonder and it feels like you've gone back in time (not in a bad way). The food in the restaurant was lovely and the view from the restaurant was amazing. We had a lovely time.

Room Tip: Sea view were the best rooms
