“Birthday weekend”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

After visiting for lunch last year we decided to visit for afternoon tea to celebrate 2 milestone birthdays, we were not disappointed. There was a wedding celebration taking place but this did not intrude on our stay at all. Staff were attentive but not pushy, the afternoon tea was excellent. We spent the evening in a booth in the rotunda bar and again had excellent service, breakfast had lots of choice and was cooked perfectly.
If there was any criticism it would be that a vegetarian option was served on the same plate as meat options, however this was immediately rectified when pointed out, and in the room adjoining ours there were dogs which were left unattended and barked at the slightest noise we made. This was not a fault of the hotel but the dog owners themselves.
All in all a great stay and planning our next.

Room Tip: If affordable go for a sea view.

As the title indicates one of the most rewarding aspects of a stay at the Midland is the incredible and ever changing view from the restaurant, across Morecambe bay and the Lakes in the distance.
The hotel has an interesting heritage, which has been protected and the juxtaposition to this are the modern bedrooms with their well thought out design. Make sure you book a room on the sea facing elevation otherwise you'll be looking out on to the car park.
Morecambe itself is well past it's best, the seaside town they forgot to close down... but if we all took that attitude where would be? Well worth a visit as its very close to Lancaster and the lakes to the north.
Breakfast was superb, cooked to order rather than buffet, matched by friendly and attentive service.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea facing room!

We have had a wonderful stay this weekend (11th April 2014) at the Midland Hotel for our close friends wedding. We arrived on Friday afternoon the weather was lovely. Check in was very quick, very pleasent staff. We were directed to the top floor as we were staying for the weekend in the Luxury suite. The suite was very large, with a kitchen, bathroom with large tub bath, bedrooom, lounge , two toilets and a very large balcony. We had something to eat and drink in the Rotunda bar (platter) very lovely I was impressed ! Satursday the day of the wedding, was a little stressful (for us) nothing to do with the hotel. The wedding - Drinks reception was great, stress free, wedding breakfast was lovely and the hotel staff kept the drinks/wine flowing. Night Do' was good fun and the bar inside the function room was well manned, the staff that night were great. The bar in the main hotel was open to 'residents only' after hours we stayed in their for ages and have to give a special mention to Kevin a member of staff who made our stay and a couple more of our friends stay at the midland very memorable, he was funny, very polite and had a great attitude towards the Midland hotel and us your customers so thanks very much Kevin ! Breakfast both mornings was excellent and again hassle free, good selection of pastries, cereals, toast, jams ect .... they had run out of Croissants which was a little disappointing however I was quickly a very happy bunny, when a lovely waitress brought over a freshly cooked very hot Croissant, well done may I also add that the same waitress also took it upon herself to take pictures of the wedding party enjoying their last sing/dance together which I thought was lovely and I was very pleased that she did as I now have some great pictures of us all ! All this as well as a lovely cooked breakfast which was great ! All in all a wonderful stay for both my husband and I . If ever we return to Morecambe we would not think twice about booking to stay with the Midland again. Well done to all you guys/girls at the midland keep up the really really good work !

Room Tip: The rooms with a view are worth it or why not go all out and book the luxury suite YOLO (you only li...

The photographs of the decor of the 1930s-styled Midland attempt to do it justice - but to talk about the outstanding interiors, delicious food, incredible setting and exemplary staff doesn't even tell half the story.
With an incredible attention to detail, the rooms are striking. The cantilevered staircase was breathtaking, and the Rotunda Bar with its little booths off was perfect for our family get-together.
With a dining room overlooking the bay, it was a pleasure to get our glad rags on to dine, and the food was definitely worth dressing up for.
Second to none, The Midland is somewhere which has indelibly printed itself onto our minds, and we're already planning a reunion there next year.

As fans of Art Deco architecture and 1930s music we enjoyed our night at the Midland. The location with views over Morecambe Bay are superb particularly from the dining room where we had an excellent dinner and an excellent breakfast the following day.The room was rather sparsely furnished with some clever features but would not have been comfortable for a long stay. We will visit again.

Another visit to the hotel has re-unforced why we like to go as much as we can. There is a solidness to this place. It is not pretty or twee but there is no doubt it is reliable. The staff at the Midland are friendly, down to earth and knowledgeable. Nothing is too much trouble. If you have special requirements it is worth emailing in advance. I had special dietary requirements and could not have been better provided for having emailed a couple of weeks in advance of our stay. A special menu was emailed to me within a week and on arrival the receptionist was aware of the special menu, commenting that everything was in order. Arriving in the restaurant the waiting staff were also aware and the menu itself was presented bound and with 3 options for each course. Well done to the Chef and other staff for making me feel 'perfectly normal' instead of feeling like a nuisance (which I often do when eating out). Everything else about our stay was up to the usual high standard which is why we enjoy returning. Well worth visit for first timers.

Room Tip: If you can spend a little extra go for a sea view room - you are practically on the shoreline and th...

We decided to meet our friends for a two night break at The Midland, Morecambe, as it was roughly half way between Carrickfergus and Shropshire. We had high expectations of the setting and were not disappointed by the location and views. The hotel was very comfortable and well-appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful but not pushy (for example we could sit at ease in the comfortable glazed terrace area and talk without being at all pressurised to have anything to eat or drink). We would particularly commend Beth, who enabled us to have the excellent afternoon tea at short notice, despite another staff member advising that it would be barely possible. The rooms were comfortable and well-equipped. The breakfast and bar meals were very good. Morecambe and the surrounding area had enough to offer to give us an interesting short stay, eg. the pleasant promenade (with the Eric Morecambe statue being well worth a visit), the Carnforth Station Visitors' Centre and the village of Arnside. We would be more than happy to return for another break.
