On our sixth stay we managed to get THE room of the hotel. Dinner B&B was good value. Traditional eating with a twist while the sun set over the bay: priceless. Plunging in the hot tub after dark was rewarding though getting out was nithering. Definitely recommend for a treat.

My partner and myself stayed here for two nights for a friends wedding. It was a lovely hotel, the staff from start to finish were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were clean, very comfy and had some unique features that made them very separate from the ordinary hotel. The breakfast was fantastic and I would say my favourite of any hotel I had stayed at. The restaurant over looks the bay, the waitresses on both mornings were friendly and for me very accommodating for vegetarians.
The location of the hotel was great, but we didn't spend much time outside of it as we were there for a wedding. So in respects of the wedding, again fantastic. Staff were great, food was lovely and we had a fantastic time.
The one small criticism I would have is the rooms were very warm and maybe air con would be an advantage. But otherwise, fantastic

We visited on the afternoon of Sunday 13th April for afternoon tea. It got off to a bit of a bad start when the waitress took us to a table at the bottom end of the curved restaurant, near to the function room. The noise coming from the function room (disco, live band?) was extremely loud. This was totally inapproprate to the time of day and the fact that lots of people wanted to enjoy a quiet afternoon tea. In my view, the manager should have intervened to have the music turned down. Anyway, the waitress understood why we didn't want to sit there and immediately relaid a dinner table at the other end of the room for us. Full marks and well handled. The afternoon tea was really lovely. Lots of delicate sandwiches, beautiful victoria sponge, chocolate eclair and fruit tart + scones jam and clotted cream and tea or coffee. Well worth the £16.50 each, lovely food and a beautiful view.

It is difficult to know what is new to say about the Midland that has not been covered before so this is a highly subjective review. In short, if you can afford a special treat while in that part of the world, just go. Between us we have ticked a few classic hotel “must-do”; the Midland therefore ranks up there with afternoon tea at Reids, Madeira (overrated), a gin sling in the Long Bar at Raffles in Singapore (another, please) and the highly atmospheric hotel at the end of the old Orient Express, the Baron Hotel, Aleppo, which has a tenuous connection with the Midland through Agatha Christie, who stayed at the Baron while visiting her archaeologist husband. The Midland has served as a backdrop for the TV adaptations of her Poirot stories. Why? Because it has character and atmosphere that more than make up for any perceived fading of its one-time grandeur. It is also a very good hotel so it is win-win for the appreciative customer. We were in a standard first floor room, which was spacious and comfortably equipped with some retro-look armchairs, and the thoughtful addition of a pair of binoculars to study the coast and passing cyclists. The clever packaging of the room managed to incorporate a giant bath and a separate shower and couldn’t be faulted. The sea-front restaurant had a good but not elaborate dinner menu and the service and food were excellent. The wine list could do with sharpening but the choice was there. The breakfast menu was equally good and the Manx kippers excellent. Overall, it was probably the best overnight stay we have had for about five years since stopping in a similarly atmospheric hotel in Annecy, France, which was marred only by incessantly hovering waiters. The Midland has style with quality and is also relaxing thanks to an enthusiastic but not overbearing, friendly staff. Morecambe looks as though it might be interesting in a shabby chic way so we are already looking forward to a two-night stay next time. Consecutive mornings with kippers, now that will be something!

We booked in here as it was the best we could find in Morcambe on the way home north.
The room was termed a 'classic room'.
It consisted of a laminated wooden box in the middle of the bedroom that housed the WC, sink, shower and a wardrobe of sorts at the end.
The windows must date back to 1933.
Who would want to stay here, particularly when they play music reminiscent of 'The Shining' at breakfast and dinner? We expected 'Johnny' at any moment.

Room Tip: Perhaps book into an upgrade from classic room

After visiting for lunch last year we decided to visit for afternoon tea to celebrate 2 milestone birthdays, we were not disappointed. There was a wedding celebration taking place but this did not intrude on our stay at all. Staff were attentive but not pushy, the afternoon tea was excellent. We spent the evening in a booth in the rotunda bar and again had excellent service, breakfast had lots of choice and was cooked perfectly.
If there was any criticism it would be that a vegetarian option was served on the same plate as meat options, however this was immediately rectified when pointed out, and in the room adjoining ours there were dogs which were left unattended and barked at the slightest noise we made. This was not a fault of the hotel but the dog owners themselves.
All in all a great stay and planning our next.

Room Tip: If affordable go for a sea view.

As the title indicates one of the most rewarding aspects of a stay at the Midland is the incredible and ever changing view from the restaurant, across Morecambe bay and the Lakes in the distance.
The hotel has an interesting heritage, which has been protected and the juxtaposition to this are the modern bedrooms with their well thought out design. Make sure you book a room on the sea facing elevation otherwise you'll be looking out on to the car park.
Morecambe itself is well past it's best, the seaside town they forgot to close down... but if we all took that attitude where would be? Well worth a visit as its very close to Lancaster and the lakes to the north.
Breakfast was superb, cooked to order rather than buffet, matched by friendly and attentive service.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea facing room!
