Arriving a day too late to see the legendary sun sets from the Hotel SunTerrace (!) We walked around the grounds to view the Hotel. Too cold....so retreated to the Rotunda Bar. Mum and I had gorgeous fish, chips, peas and a free pot of tea with very posh biscuits! After watching the rain sweeping across Morcambe Bay, we just had a few minutes to enjoy the amazing sight of the last rays of sun beaming down over the hills beyond (The Lakes)... we then had a fascinating chat with a member of staff (Corey) who entertained us with details of the history of the hotel and brought a book on the subject for us to look at. The1930s background music..added great authenticity to the ambience. Climbed the beautiful staircase for a close up of the mural on the ceiling and the view top down was unique. Glamour & nostalgia, good food and excellent staff.... our trip was excellent...even eithout the sunset!

We stayed here for two nights over Easter in one of the top floor rooms with floor to ceiling windows. Fantastic view. Lovely spacious room with balcony overlooking Morecambe Bay which means you get lovely sunsets if the weather's nice.

Great service - not in your face, but there if you need it. Great food and cocktails. I asked for a Long Island Iced tea which wasn't on the menu, but wasn't a problem!

We walked along the prom to Heysham village on the Sunday and along the prom passed Eric on the Monday.

We booked afternoon tea for the whole family on Easter Sunday and it went down a treat. Everyone loved it.

Some signs of tired carpet on the stairs - but that's just needing a little TLC.

Would definitely recommend and return for another stay.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to the top floor - you won't be disappointed.

We stayed for one night to celebrate a special anniversary and the Hotel lived up to all our expectations. We loved the decor in the hotel and our room and it was so comfortable. We enjoyed a cream tea in the afternoon and a fabulous meal in the evening. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Everything is designed to make the most of the view over the bay and the beautiful sunsets and we will definitely be returning to share a bottle of wine in the Rotunda Bar to watch the sun go down over the bay - delightful!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - it's worth it.

I stayed at this hotel in March, I was offered a deal that included a free dinner and breakfast for two nights. Arrival at the hotel was okay. Dealt with quite quickly at reception, and I found the room quite easily. The room itself is a great design and very attractive. I had paid extra for a sea view and got a balcony, that was lovely. The public areas are a but tired and some of the carpets are a bit threadbare. The dinner was a bit disappointing, the sole bonne femme starter was a bit overcooked and the steak and chips were okay, but nothing special. As usual with an inclusive dinner most things incurred an extra charge, but I thought it a bit much to make vegetables an extra. The menu is limited and there is a lot of duck on the main course list. Desserts were not terribly exciting. Breakfast was okay, nothing worthy of special note. The room was not serviced until late in the afternoon. I had booked to have afternoon tea. It is quite expensive and I found that everything is ready made in advance and if you want anything special, due to an allergy for example, the hotel cannot accommodate you. All the sandwiches come with mayonnaise, so if you don't like it then you will have to go without. I am always surprised by the lack of flexibility in English hotels, as if the customer is to be treated as an inconvenience. In the event I didn't bother with tea. The room was quite noisy as all of the plumbing from the room above runs through the lower rooms. Consequently every time the toilet is used in the room above, you will hear it . Also worth noting is that this hotel allows dogs in the rooms and I had a disturbed night listening to a dog whining and crying nearby.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a seaview.

Dear WoodDeepThought

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Midland.
I was sorry to learn from both this review and the separate review posted below that we failed to meet your expectations in some areas, and please accept my apologies for this.
However, and in response to a few of the areas highlighted, I think it only fair to state that we have FOUR dishes on our entire menu that incurr a small supplement for diners on an inclusive rate. As our main courses are served as complete dishes (ie with accompanying vegetables etc), we do charge for side orders of vegetables as most would expect. I was also suprised that state that there is a lot of duck on our main course list - we only have one dish containing duck.
In addition, our afternoon tea sandwiches do not of course all contain mayonnaise and, far from being unable or unwilling to accommodate any dietary requirements, the availablility or otherwise of suitable items was more a result of us having no prior knowledge of your particular requirements or indeed wish to book a table for afternoon tea. During quieter periods, this could certainly have been accommodated.
As mentioned previously, I am truly sorry that we failed to meet your expectations in certain areas and will, of course, discuss your comments relating to the areas in which you feel we can improve with my team. However, I do feel it important to add a degree balance to some of your statements for the benefit of the Tripadvisor community.

Best regards

Stayed as part of midweek offer 1 nights dinner & B&B.Paid extra for sea view, the balcony made this worth it.Great sunset view
On entering foyer wow! but on close inspection things looked a little worn especially the carpet on the stairs. The Sea view room with balcony initially created a good impression, very stylish and minimal ,everything well concealed in the central block. However this also contained the down pipes from the rooms above so we were well aware when the room facilities were used.
The inclusive dinner required additional payments for several dishes steak/cheese/veg.The whole meal was unremarkable and somewhat disappointing .On ordering a malt without anything I was asked by the waitress how I could drink it like that?
Sleeping was difficult due to the plumbing also due to some aerodynamic phenomenon in the corridor and the gap under the door it was if we were being visited by the banshee. Beware the hotel allows all dogs in the bedroom be prepared for howling & barking at night!
Breakfast was equally poor, the menu said kippers which I ordered ,when the waitress brought the order she said kippers on the plate was a solitary kipper!!
On returning to the room after 3 hours aimlessly wandering round Morecambe we found the room had not been serviced so we had to go out again before returning for afternoon tea.
Regrettably we neednt have bothered as the sandwiches had mayonnaise and as they had been pre made all they could offer was to give us the cream cheese & cucumber ones.
We didnt have dinner on the second night and ate at a pub opposite .
I think a one night stay on the way to somewhere is all I can recomend

Room Tip: sea view with balcony

On our sixth stay we managed to get THE room of the hotel. Dinner B&B was good value. Traditional eating with a twist while the sun set over the bay: priceless. Plunging in the hot tub after dark was rewarding though getting out was nithering. Definitely recommend for a treat.

My partner and myself stayed here for two nights for a friends wedding. It was a lovely hotel, the staff from start to finish were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were clean, very comfy and had some unique features that made them very separate from the ordinary hotel. The breakfast was fantastic and I would say my favourite of any hotel I had stayed at. The restaurant over looks the bay, the waitresses on both mornings were friendly and for me very accommodating for vegetarians.
The location of the hotel was great, but we didn't spend much time outside of it as we were there for a wedding. So in respects of the wedding, again fantastic. Staff were great, food was lovely and we had a fantastic time.
The one small criticism I would have is the rooms were very warm and maybe air con would be an advantage. But otherwise, fantastic
