“A great hotel”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

Spent a lovely weekend in Morcambe Bay at The Strathmore; a very pleasantly situated hotel just across the road from the promenade. The bay is absolutely fabulous and there is a wonderful view from the dining room in the hotel. Our twin room was large and spacious and quietly positioned to the rear of the hotel. It was extremely clean and had everything that we could wish for. However, it would benefit from an update in time which no doubt will be in the offing. The meals were lovely and perfectly cooked and served to us by Leon. He was delightful and always had a smile and a joke with us at meal times. We will definitely be back.

Just returned from a 5 day coach holiday with Shearings to Morecambe and the Lakes . This was our hotel and my review is very positive :-). A little dated and needs some repairs , but beautifully clean , comfortable and welcoming . Our waiter Leon ( the English one lol ) was funny , attentive to our requirements and a mine of local information . Food was excellent .....though the fried eggs more like poached :-( .....but that is my one and only gripe !! Lovely sea front position with fantastic views across the bay to the Lakeland area . Would definitely return .

Room Tip: If you need walk-in shower you would be best to request on booking .

Stayed here for 3 nights from 11th April to celebrate mum's 85th birthday. There were 9 of us and the restaurant kindly accomodated us all sitting together at meal times. Waiters were lovely especially Leon and nothing was too much trouble. The food was exceptional, tasty and hot. Entertainment was really good. The double rooms were clean and comfortable but the single room mum stayed in was shabby. The carpet was very worn and the room was tiny. Mum has trouble getting around and the step in to the shower was too high to allow access. Hotel is in a lovely spot facing the bay. (Bet it's lovely in warmer weather but it was so cold when we were there we had to go out and buy hats, scarves and gloves). Two downsides were the cost of the drinks - extortionate springs to mind. And also the receptionist with the foreign accent who was very rude. Will still go back again. This is the third break we have booked with Shearings (Paignton and Ilfracombe) and this was by far the best.

Room Tip: Basic rooms were comfortable but if you want a seaview you will need to pay the supplement

Dear podge 54

I am sorry that you feel our drinks prices are too high. Our bar prices are similar to what other hotels are charging in Morecambe.

I am pleased that you found the location of the hotel to your liking.

We paid a little extra for a sea view room in this hotel which is on the East Promenade in Morecambe. Its a Shearings Hotel and there are coach parties or you can come on your own as we did. My partner is disabled (not wheelchair but balance problems) and I am coeliac (gluten intolerance) so this and with the wish to be near the seaside were the drivers for our visit. We were not disappointed. There is a lovely flat walk right along the sea front opposite the hotel, with a small sandy beach. On a fine day there would be views across the estuary to the Lakeland mountains. The access to the hotel is also flat, there is disabled parking for two cars or along the promenade outside. There is ground floor dining, lift to all floors, and our room was all on a level, however no walk in shower available. We were a little disappointed in the size of the bedroom however it was all comfortable and clean. The hotel corridors and bedrooms are in need of sprucing up, but are comfortable and warm and the restaurant is lovely. The service is excellent, the waiters are most attentive. They came up trumpswith providing gluten-free bread and I had a choice of meals on each occasion, exceeding my expectations. The lift up is a little small but, heh it works (remember to shut the inner door after use). I was somewhat concerned about the steps up to the fire escape with not handrail in the event of a fire my partner would have needed assistance, but there was a door sign we could hang out asking for assistance in this event. There was a free cabaret on both nights and the singers were absolutely fabulous. We had not anticipated such high quality entertainment plus we were given four free drinks (including soft drinks or tea and coffee) on the gala evening.
I would recommend this hotel if you want good value, delicious food and fantastic entertainment and friendly company, but are not fussy about decor or luxury surroundings.

Room Tip: If you ask for a top floor room you won't hear people walking about above your head!

Dear Anne G,

Fantastic! We love to hear reviews like this when we have made someone’s holiday as enjoyable as possible.

The chef and the restaurant staff do their upmost to cater for dietary requirements and I am pleased your needs were met.

We are very lucky here at the Strathmore to be based so near to the town and on such level grounds. We have many guests that return year after year because they know that the promenade is so beautiful to walk along with the added bonus that it is so flat.

Thank you very much for recommending us and we look forward to seeing you again in the future, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay.

I will be happy to pass on your lovely comments to everyone here!

Kind Regards

We stayed at the Strathmore for a weekend break.
The Hotel is on the Eastern end of the Promenade and has fabulous views, across Morecambe Bay, of The Lake District.
It is ideally situated for trips into Lancaster, Heysham, Carnforth and the Lake District and is just a few minutes walk from the shops and markets of Morecambe.
There is a small car park at the rear of the hotel but plenty of unrestricted parking on the Promenade just outside.
The buses stop right outside the front entrance and offer services to all major destinations.
We stayed in room 101 and were very satisfied with the layout, the decor and the facilities which included a decent sized flat-screen Tv, a large built-in wardrobe, and good quality complimentary tea/coffee.
Meals were of excellent quality and expertly served by our designated Waiter Leon.
Evening entertainment, supplied by a different artist each evening, was really enjoyable. The bar prices average and bar service excellent.
There was really nothing to moan or complain about and we'll be paying another visit to this great hotel very soon.

Room Tip: From what other guests have said. They are all good rooms.
