We stayed here in June 14 on a KGB deal. It is a charming, old fashioned hotel, very comfortable and welcoming. The food was excellent, both at dinner and breakfast. The bed was comfortable and very big! All the staff were helpful and friendly. All in all a lovely experience. As we were on a cheapie our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking a used car lot, but we weren't there for the view.

Probably the worst afternoon tea I have ever had, I paid £19.00 for two people using a groupon voucher the actual price would have been almost £50!! The girl who served us was very polite and the drinks were fine but the tea consisted of 4 small sandwiches each, a rather hard fruit scone, a tiny slither of lemon cake, a broken up piece of carrot cake, the trifle was very nicely presented and was the only appetising thng on the tea. This tea excluding the drinks was only worth paying £3, come on Hardwicke Hall look at what you are offering customers your surroundings are lovely, your staff are very nice and I've had the carvery before and its superb, please please do something about your afternoon tea it is a disgrace!

I stayed here on two separate occasions in May and June 2014. Although the address is shown as Hartlepool it's actually nearer to Peterlee. This place is literally in a time warp but I mean that in a good way, if you like clean lines and modern decor, it's probably not for you. However Hardwicke Hall oozes character with it's uneven floors and floral (dare I say fussy) decor. The atmosphere is pleasant and calm as life seems to run at a slower pace more akin to bygone times. This was particularly pleasant as I was visiting on business as I found it easy to unwind here.

All of the staff are very friendly and attentive and make you feel very welcome. The food at the restaurant is delicious and breakfast is also great with a wide selection of offerings and freshly made English breakfast,

Room rates are fairly reasonable but it's worth noting that the cheaper rooms are a little small with poor views. In my opinion, it's well worth paying the extra tenner for a larger room overlooking the lovely gardens.

I'd recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again.

Good hotel in lovely gardens. Stayed for 3 nights on a KGB deal. Rooms furnished to high standard and of good size (stayed in a twin). Room cleaned and towels changed every day. Tea tray excellent with plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits (tea especially of good quality which is not always the case even in good hotels). Breakfast (full English) was very good and 3 course dinner in the evening was excellent value for money and extremely tasty. Staff helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a quite location with nothing around it. The nearest pub is a five minute drive away and the nearest shops about ten minutes. Hartlepool itself is suffering from the recession and has seen better days. Forty-five minute drive to Newcastle which of course has everything.

Lovely setting for a hotel. You must appreciate this is a listed building. My room was a generously sized twin room and a full English breakfast was included, which was very nice. Very comfortable bed and lovely crisp white sheets. Good tea tray with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Bathroom a generous size also. I could not use the shower properly as the water temperature was either very hot or scalding hot. I did mention this to the staff on the 2nd morning but nothing was done about it. This inconvenienced my stay and I had to shower in a friends accommodation elsewhere. There was little apology forthcoming and no recompense for the inconvenience. I had booked for 6 people to stay at this hotel later in the year but have subsequently cancelled it due to the poor handling of the shower problem I experienced
