I booked this guest house for 3 nights on behalf of family who were visiting from Scotland. They could not praise it highly enough. Spacious and comfortable rooms, impeccable cleanliness, and a lovely and generous breakfast. Location is superb, just by the promenade and beach, yet set back just far enough to avoid noise from the road. Really good value, with booking online available. Highly recommended.

We stayed three nights at the Altonlea and couldn't have been more pleased with our visit. The room was fresh, well appointed and immaculately clean. We had a 1st floor room with a large sliding door onto the courtyard which let in a nice breeze. I had requested a box of chocolates for my wife, as we were mid way through our England vacation, and thought the chocolates would surprise her. Awaiting us was a HUGE box of excellent quality assorted chocolates. It was perfect! Lea was the perfect host. Even though we had a first floor room, Lea insisted on handling our luggage from the car to the room, and when we departed from the room to our car. Attentive, but never intrusive. He helped us plan the best way to visit Hadrian's wall, the North York Moors National Park, and to find the market, a bakery and a butcher shop. His breakfasts were outstanding, including the only B&B where we were offered blood pudding with HP sauce. YUM! The "Mr. Holst's porridge" was SUPERB! Lea told us he made a mistake with our room assignment, and said we were supposed to get a sea view room and offered to move us. We were quite content with our room, and declined moving. So he gave us the box of chocolates for free! What a honest and caring host! We would strongly recommend to the Altonlea to anyone staying in the Hartlepool area.

We stayed at Altonlea Lodge for 2 nights during the hot weather in July. The proprietors were very welcoming, friendly and helpful, particularly on local attractions and how to get to them. The setting of the guest house is excellent and our room overlooked the green and sea - the sea breeze being very refreshing during the hot weather. The room was very clean and comfortable and the whole building was decorated tastefully and to a high standard. Breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent. We will definitely stay again!

My wife and I were visiting the area with 4 others to man a layout at a model railway exhibition in Hartlepool and the accomodation was booked by the organisers. They could not have found us anything better. The rooms were very well appointed, ours had a view over the Green and the sea. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to stay there again if we find ourselves in the area. There is a private parking area but parking round the Green and on the Front is free and we could always park within 150 yards.

Room Tip: Room 4 is a double over the front door with sea views but not the wind farm offshore

We recently stayed at Altonlea Lodge and can say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were of a good size and very clean. The breakfast were well prepared and with a very friendly service. Plenty of advice on local attractions and best ways to get to them. We have no hesitation in recommending this B&B you wont be disappointed.

Stayed here with my wife and sister on 7 and 8 July 2013. Rooms were great, double room overlooked the green with sea views and the Hartlepool headland. Twin en-suite for sister was in the rear courtyard overlooking a beautifully tended garden.
Met Olwen, Tony and Lee - all had plenty of time to chat and give recommendations for various things. Nothing was too much for them.
Breakfast was great and the choice really good.
Certainly recommend to anyone and will definitely stay again on my next Hartlepool visit.

Room Tip: Rooms at front in main house are great for views and pretty quiet even with the window open.
