“Reminiscent of school dinners!”
Reviewed 6 September 2013

We went to the Dovey Inn for the 'traditional Sunday lunch with all the trimmings', as it advertised.
Well, they did finally manage to bring the right meals to our table at the THIRD attempt...and when they did we wondered why we'd bothered - three plates of meagre and very mediocre food appeared in front of us.

This was bland English cooking of the worst kind, and very reminiscent of old-time school dinners. The vegetables consisted of a couple of tablespoons of mixed cabbage and carrots, and we had 2 small chunks of roast potatoes and one flabby individual Yorkshire pudding each. Not a lot for our £7.99 per meal.

We didn't stay for desserts...nothing would have induced us to give this establishment more money and we won't be returning there. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe it...

Nice greeting when I arrived.

Parking is a pain - none at the hotel and you need to use meter parking down the road.

Room was quite nice. I got one with a view over the sea. It was quite quaint.

Front door of pub says "lively pub - music and sports" however policy is no TV sport during dinner policy. This is a bit annoying because dinner happens precisely when most night sports (eg. football) is on. This forced me to go elsewhere for a pint and watch a game.

Very limited menu - mostly burgers and other bar food. Service in restaurant was very good and quick.

Overall, a pretty decent accommodation experience in a very nice town.

Room Tip: Try to get a room upstairs at the front, overlooking ocean

First of all Aberdyfi, its welsh name , is an understated seaside getaway which is still pure and unspoilt. No pound shops here, although the population of "Art Galeries" could match the capitals pro rata.Nestled here is a complete set of inns and coffee shops which all offer a good standard. We recently stayed at the Dovey inn , our third visit to Cardiff brewer and pub chain owner Brains smart pub come hotel. The rooms are modern and well furnished, clean and comfortable, yet distinctive enough. The views from the front rooms 8 and 9 are just as you would expect with a nice pair of comfy chairs and table to park your wine to maximise the experience. No oil tankers, just small boats, sails, nets, you get the picture! The bar area is busy and the staff were accommodating in ensuring as residents we were able to eat soon after our arrival. The food menu was extensive and reasonably priced, not exeptional, but plentifull.Breakfast was your normal offering of individual packs of cereal, coffee ad lib,a reasonable cooked breakfast (there was no excuse in cooking for numbers)which gave us a good start to the day.Overall the Dovey offers a good package and gets our recommendation, our only complaint being the bed which really does need replacing.

This is a great place to stay in Aberdovey - Booked it last minute to do the Race the Train event and they could not of been more helpful - Ian the manager was terrific and the bar staff friendly. Food is such value for money. Breakfast is great. Rooms are very clean with everything you need.

We only stayed overnight but the service we received was excellent, we ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious, staff were very helpful. Our room was very comfortable, clean roomy, breakfast more than adequate. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Room 10 overlooked the sea.

Haven't stopped here so I can only comment on the lunch we had.
Menu was very good and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our individual choices.
Staff were very friendly and service was excellent.
All this was great value as well, remarkably cheap for the quality of food and service we received.

A nice hotel in a lovely town. Our room had a sea view with a big bathroom. The room was very comfortable although it needed a bit of tlc. The bath panel had a crack along the side that (we mentioned this when we left, the next day). We ate at the hotel and the food was OK but my husbands steak was tough. We did complain and we had a choice of a free drink/dessert to compensate. This didn't spoil our stay and we would stay/eat here again.
