Thanks to Phil, Paul and Christina for helping to make our stay very enjoyable. Amazing value for money, comfortable and bright bedroom with beautiful views over the estuary. Breakfast more than adequate. All visitors strongly advised to sample afternoon tea. Better than the Savoy!
Very warm and welcoming staff, who went out of their way to help

This place is about average for a brewery owned one; the rooms with a view are fine and the staff nice.

We weren't warned that it's disabled- hostile, though. The slate steps down from the annexe are difficult when it's fine but almost lethal when wet (not unusual in Aberdovey, unfortunately), and there are many minor traps in the main building.

amazing place from checking in to a warm coal fire on winter night attentive and efficent staff a warm welcome after long journey, immaculate accomodation which mixed comfort and modern amazing veiws and atmosphere, had lunch and evening meal which can be taken in restaurant or bar area, the open fire attracted me to eat in the bar though the menu was the same in either and on every occasion food service was first class, nice wine choice reasonably priced all round an amazing experience would highly recommend it and will be. would definatly return.

Just returned fom a wonderful weekend at the Penhelig where Phil and hsi staff made us feel very welcome, We stayed in one of the Bodhelig rooms which had all the facilities you needed to relax and chill out with spectacular views of the estuary made even better by the very unseasonable weather we enjoyed. The rooms are very very spacious and to some degree better than far more expensive hotels we have stayed at with possibly the warmest bathroom I have ever experienced! We were going to eat in the town on the Friday but got comfortable in the hotels snug bar and decided to book a table in the restaurant where I enjoyed the best steak I have had for a very long time and my partner really enjoyed her vegetarian meal. Personally I am not a fan of double cooked chips but that's just me. We dined in the restaurant again on the Saturday and once again thoroughly enjoyed the food, all backed up with a good selection of ales, cocktails and wines, yes I did try them all!
Unusally for us we spent most of the weekend around the hotel, partly down to Aberdovey being shut for winter but mainly due to how comfotable Phil and the staff made us feel. Yes there are a few minor things I could pick up on but hey can't we always and to be fair Phil's only been in charge for a couple of months and seems to have a done a sterling job in that short time.
Look forward to returning again soon.
Nigel

From the easy way of Phil and Paul on arrival , the mulled wine and mince pies to the warmth of the accommodation and the spectacular views over the dovey estuary, we loved it all. Christmas day was just right with not too much by way of festivities but plenty in the way of choice of food.
Brains should INVEST in this little welsh jewel as much as they can.
10/10 for a wonderful break. Thank you all.

Room Tip: If you can go the extra do try to book the Penhelig house. This is a two level apartment very well e...

New Year 2014 saw the Pen returning to its old form! Under new manager Phil, the hotel has regained much of its former ambience; excellent food, attentive but not over-insistent staff and a warmth of welcome which some found missing since the great Brains storm. Phil has been there, done that and much more and brings back the feeling of the glory days and ...what a nice surprise...Robert was in on New Year's Day for a chat. Add to this the upcoming refurbishment of all the hotel rooms over the winter and the Pen will once again be a force to be reckoned with.

Room Tip: Go for larger doubles with a sea view and wake up to the waves breaking over the site of the old Pen...
