“Nice stopover”
Reviewed 28 April 2013 via mobile

We are from Australia and drove to Aberdovey from Warrington for a night stopover, expecting that we would just B&B on the Saturday night. However we found the Main Street a little busy and a couple of B & B's were no vacancy.
There was a hotel on the hill back there a little out of town and we will be locked in but it could be nice. It was a pleasant surprise £80pp per night gave a 5 course Dinner, bed and breakfast.
This is a very traditional hotel - offering great service and facilities. There were lounges to sit in and enjoy the views, on the Saturday they had a Harp player filtering to the lounges. A well appointed separate bar. An indoor swimming pool and games room. Many outdoor seating areas. For dinner and breakfast you go to the dining room. This is beautiful and so traditional, for dinner, no jeans, you will need trousers, a jacket and tie with excellent waiter service and a well priced wine list. The views of the bay add to the pleasure. Breakfast was lovely, fresh cooked as order and served to your table, Dinner was a little disappointing, a little rushed and we may suffered from bad choice as we both had Duck for main which was a little greasy yet the lamb at the next table looked super. Lemon meringue was great.
Our room 207 was lovely looking over the bay and the golf course, there are other rooms with lovely balconies. If there is one real shortfall it is the lack of Wi Fi, but overall a most enjoyable experience

We were persuaded, if not cajoled, by friends to have a two night break with them at this a regular haunt of theirs. We were somewhat apprehensive about what we would find, but the hotel is really not bad at all.

The lounges, bar and dining room are all rather comfortable, especially those areas where you have seats by the window giving expansive sea views. The food is very presentable whilst I consider the wines to be reasonably priced. Aberdovey is a delightful small town although the wintery weather had not improved enough during our visit to take advantage of all the facilities.

The downside was that the room was not as comfortable as we are used to although we did have good sea views and a balcony. Nevertheless, we had chosen to take our small dog with us and consequently were not allowed to have a superior room on fourth floor.

The hotel reminded us in many ways of the Victoria in Sidmouth, although the clientele is much more family orientated with many three generations of the same family staying when we did.

All in all, a very good value for money short break.

A quiet position hotel, well off coastal road. A pleasant walk around the golf course and stroll into Aberdovey. The restaurant lay out is quality and matches up to the dinner and wine, an excellent event. Repeated at breakfast. We were unfortunate to have an excellent bedroom close to a noisy lift, other rooms were attractive whether with sea or hill views, away from lift were quiet. Looking forward to our next visit, even though it is a tedious route.

We have just returned from our 5th stay here, this time with friends. There can't be many hotels with such beautiful views. A sea facing room is a must, but do check the size as ours (307) was smaller than we have had before & no hanging room for dresses, they dragged on the base of the wardrobe. However, as usual, spotless & nice to have sheets & blankets instead of a duvet.
You can't fault the food, the dining room staff are friendly & efficient, & again it's nice to have table service for breakfast , maybe some would think it old fashioned but it's these nice touches that make this hotel special as it isn't cheap. Also, the lounges are great , try & get a window seat & watch the waves - very relaxing. A good sized swimming pool, plus the pitch & putt adds fun. It's a 15 min walk into Aberdovey where you can browse or try the home-made icecream, & a walk along the beautiful beach is a must. We will return.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view, but also check size.

Just back from a weekend at the Trefeddian hotel in Aberdyfi. 19 people in our party aged from 14 to 80 plus 6 dogs. The get together was to celebrate Grans 80th.
The hotel provided great breakfasts with a very good choice.
Our evening meal was also included in our package which consisted of 5 course menus.
Staff were all very jolly ,fun and helpfull, food was served quickly (not bad considering there were 19 of us and they were catering for a couple more groups like ourselves.
Food was good, wide choice, not Michelin star by any standard but very edible for the large numbers they can cater for.
Hotel facilities were also good they really do cater for every age group with games room, swimming pool, golf course directly in front of hotel, miles of sandy beeches just a short walk away, fantastic sea views.
The hotel was very clean and tidy and well maintained.
The room I shared with my wife was a little on the small side and we only had a double bed a king-size would have been much better.
Although we had 6 dogs if you are not dog lovers they are only allowed in one of the lounges.
All in all no complaints from any of our party we all had a great weekend, helped by radiant sunshine.

Room Tip: Ask about bed size

I have been going to Trefedian for some years now and always have a lovely stay there. All the staff are friendly, helpful and will do everything they can to accommodate you. As a single room guest, I often feel cheated by hotel rooms on offer, but the single rooms here are very pleasant, spacious and comfortable.
There is plenty to do in and around the area (honey ice creams in nearby Towyn is always my favourite) and the hotel has good facilities, including tennis courts, swimming pool (though the pool is pretty small), pitch and putt, to keep you occupied.
In terms of food, the first thing to say is that the waiting staff here make dining an absolute delight. They are exceedingly thoughtful, professional and competent, and ,with a few exceptions (mainly new, young recruits), find plenty of time to chat to you and make you laugh. The food is good- breakfast has a wonderful selection and afternoon tea is incredible, with gorgeous scones and cakes. Dinner is a 5 course affair, and again the selection on offer is remarkable, and of high quality. My only quibbles are that the toast at breakfast can often be cold, and that the selection of veg at dinner (which used to change every day) has been exactly the same the for the past 3 week stays I've had!
All in all, the hotel offers a wonderful break away for everyone from families, to lone holidayers such as myself, and all without the horrific experience of air travel!

We stayed end of February with my wife and two children for a 5 night stay at the Trefeddian Hotel. We normally come down to aberdovey in the first week of the school summer holidays, but decided to book a week off work in Feb and bring my wife and kids away.

We had a very good stay, the food was excellent for breakfast & dinner. You can ask your waitress for a small portion for the kids, because 5 courses does take a lot of digesting by night no 4! But on other hand the staff were very helpful and professional, ( one small constructive criticism when we were checked in; the lady behind the reception couldn't break a smile... which I thought was not a very good first impression when you have just checked in after a long journey in the car! )

I do recommend this hotel to any family who wish to bring there kids away, there is plenty to do, beach/swimming/tennis.. Also good value for money in the low season months! Aberdovey is such a peaceful little village tucked away on the west coast of Wales, great for a family holiday. We will back in the summer, with sunshine..

Room Tip: Rooms that end with 17, the side sea facing family bedrooms.. Large and plenty of room for a family...
