We have just returned from a great overnight stay at The Salty Dog. I must say customer service makes all the difference and Salty Dog certainly goes that extra mile! On checking in Maeve was wonderful in welcoming us and filling us in on where and what to do. It was when we sat down to dinner that I realised I had forgotten to pack toothpaste and so I asked Barbara at reception. Unfortunately they didnt have any but she drove out to the nearest shop and got me some! Its personal touches like this that make all the difference, so kind and helpful. Our room was lovely with fab views over the harbour which we could take in while lying in bed. Dinner, cocktails and breakfast were fab and the atmosphere was buzzing. We would most definitely recommend The Salty Dog!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with view of harbour.

Having had the misfortune of eating here I feel it important to warn others...DONT!!!.unless your prepared to wait 40 mins before you get your starters which when they arrive contain all the ingredents but somehow the person in the kitchen has managed to remove all the flavour leaving the most bland dish ever, genius. A further 40 mins to receive mains , over priced, under thought and again tasteless.. The icing on the cake, desserts, so so bad they had to be sent back, these included a millefeuille which had been constructed using not the layers of puff pastry but 3layers of a biscuit type thing baked to oblivion served with a nice cream of balsamic which obliviously had been made by someone with no palate, panache or talent, deffinatly couldn't have been a paid chef...The worst 3hrs start to finish..Should have known better from a place that still has it's Christmas menu online, menus with different prices and unavailable dishes. Took our booking for the wrong evening, and is placed 3rd out of 4 hotels in bangor, however one hotel has since closed leaving the salty dog 3rd out of 3....rightfully so!!!! AVOID.....

I stayed on 24/25/26 December 2013. The room was warm and welcoming. The staff were very pleasant and the service excellent. Anything I asked for was not a problem. The food was delicious and large portions were the norm! I was treated like royalty the whole time. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Excellent stay at this boutique hotel and with a minimal upgrade you can enjoy a room with a beautiful scenic view of the sea front. This hotel is in an excellent position to allow for park-up and enjoy the many coastal walks. It is also within close proximity to the town and its many attractions to include other fine restaurants. I found the Hotel to have high standards of cleanliness, food equal to any good eating establishments, staff friendly, courteous and willing to accommodate. Good stay.

Room Tip: Upgrade for a sea front view and waken to the sun on the sea.

Recently stayed for 1 night, room was very cold and staff noticed this and said they would fix the problem. After coming back to the room 2hrs later no heat, we called reception who then had to lift carpets to have the heating on. When we came back in the evening to go to bed room was warm but the next morning we where so cold as no heating in the room, we did voice this to staff who just apologised and said they would be fixing it for the future?. Lovely decor down stairs breakfast really good, dinner not much choice and not enough friends went to fill up elsewhere and expensive cocktails. Could be improved .

We stayed for 1 night in February.. Room was very comfy and breakfast lovely.. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we had a booking elsewhere.. Waitresses were really friendly, but barman, not as friendly or helpful as the guys at the Merchant.. But, all in all for the money pretty good

Four if us had lunch in The Salty Dog bistro on a Wednesday afternoon in January. There was plenty of choice available on the menu and everything that we ate was tasty. Clean plates all round!
Nice venue too, right at the seafront
Great!
