“In great hands now - Fab stay and food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

We visited the hotel previously in 09 and we were very disappointed so when there was a fab online discount site offering it we thought we would chance our luck. The hotel has changed in so many ways that it is like a different place. Reception and bar staff were welcoming. Rooms are what is expected from a boutique hotel with fabulous views over the harbour. Food was amazing for dinner and breakfast was cook to order to perfection. We will be back for another trip I am sure in the future.

Although we did not stay here myself and partner could not wait to see it as we had heard so much about it. We called in for a relaxing drink to find the very small lounge area full so we went directly to bar area
My partner ordered 2 glasses of red wine and as there were lots of free tables with fabulous views i sat at one of them. There was no cutlery on it so i presumed it was ok to do so. As soon as i had sat down a young waitress came over and asked me to leave the area as it was for eating at only, there was absolutely no one eating and it was empty. Slightly confused as to the reasoning behind this i followed her into the already full lounge area to be unceremoniously squeezed in beside a young family. Myself and partner did not feel comfortable as the area was full to capacity.
We drank our wine and left, very disappointed

Visited Salty Dog with grand daughter and son home for flying visit. Having dined here when named the Sands years ago when kids were young the immediate impression was very cheering. Table was ready in short while and the food was excellent and enjoyed by our family. Coco, 4 years old ate all her sausages and gravy. Quite expensive but enjoyed the whole evening. Staff very helpful, polite and I would revisit for sure. Other family groups there seemed to enjoy also.

My partner and I popped in for lunch last week. We were able to change the menu, making a main dinner into a lunch size for half the price. (The main portions are huge and def value for money.) We both ordered the goats cheese linguine, it was like grown up mac and cheese (one of our favs!). The keen nut butter houmous is also amazing! We have been here many times and The Salty Dog never fails to deliver.

This rustic seaside hotel has a certain amount of old fashioned charm with a modern twist and being sea fronting it is in a great location.
It was a shame that our room faced away from the seafront as it was disappointing to face the walls of the rear of the property but as this was a Bank holiday weekend with a full house and late booking we accepted the room.
The room was small with a decent bathroom so all was acceptable for the price of circa £80.00.
In the evening we booked a table for five in the very popular hotel restaurant, the food was of good bistro quality and staff were all excellent.
The following morning was met with a decent breakfast with fresh coffee and a sea front table.
Overall it was a good stay with a fair room and decent food but it just did not quite hit the mark. Possibly it was the darkened stairway leading to the rooms and the dark decor of our room or, maybe it was scruffy modern rustic style which was made even scruffier by the very busy and loud guests in the bar area on arrival. It was a Bank holiday and I am sure it would be a better stay on another day.

Room Tip: Book early and get a sea view

Visited the Salty Dog numerous times on business and had some fantastic meals, unfortunately our recent visit was spoilt due to poor quality (rib-eye) steak, which was as tough as old boots. On other occasions our rib-eye was perfect, so something needs to be done to rectify this as fast? Three rib-eye steaks ordered to be cooked three different ways and the consensus was the same, tough!

I visited The Salty Dog last weekend (26th July) with my boyfriend and his family for a goodbye dinner and it was absolutely fantastic!

I really love this place, the atmosphere is brilliant from the moment you walk in. The staff are really friendly and service is both prompt and professional.

The food is exceptional - every one of us loved our meal. We had sausages and mash, the signature burger and fish between us and everything was tasty, hot and delicious! The selection on offer is great and they have a fab specials board too. I highly recommend the 'keen' choux dessert which I had!

I also tried the cocktail of the month which went down a treat too.

After our meal we sat and had a few drinks in the seating area - it was really lovely with a fantastic atmosphere.

Although I'm not from the Bangor area I really would recommend The Salty Dog to anyone who is in this direction! I can't wait until my next visit and shall be recommending it to all my friends!
