“Beautiful B&B with spectacular views.”
Reviewed 19 September 2011

This place was really gorgeous, inside and out. The inn was located across from the beautiful bay, with a path/park to walk around. The room was really beautiful. It's an old house with nice furniture and decor. Beautiful wood details. We stayed in eight B&Bs on this trip, and this was the most lavish breakfast. The fruits choices alone were impressive. Chris, the owner, sent us to a local seafood place for dinner, and the food was great. The room was spacious, the bed was comfy, we had coffee/tea, and a mini fridge in the room with bottled water and sweets. The room was very nice and big, with a long bay window seat. Bathroom was also big and spotless. We stayed here to be close to Mt. Stewart Gardens. A wonderful place, and worth a visit. Would highly recommend this inn and would love to stay longer next time. Chris and Jenny were very friendly and welcoming hosts.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in front of the house to get a view of the bay.

This gem was a true B & B, through and through. Despite the loss of our baggage, they made us welcome especially with an early check-in. We were surprised with a view of the bay in a spacious room with a larger than average (for Europe) sized en-suite. The over-sized, soft towels and seaweed bath products were a nice touch. They had a DVD player with the TV, including a very large selection to choose from. To top it off, they had bathrobes and slippers, free wifi, and a gift shop. Breakfast offered a buffet of fresh fruits (melon, kiwi), along with fruit in syrup (including apricots and figs), cereals, and even smoothies. They offered porridge, full irish breakfast, salmon, sausage, bread, toast, and eggs. There was even a fridge in the room (we had to unplug at night) stocked with bottled water. It was a 10 minute walk to town, and about 45 minutes to Belfast. Chris and Jenny were very kind and informative. The only downside was the weekend music coming from the marina until the wee hours of the morning made it difficult to sleep for light sleepers. This home was very tidy and cozy.

Dear Aaron and Ami,
Thankyou so much for the lovely review, we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us!
We are sorry you were disturbed by the music - it was from the Ballyholme Yacht Club Regatta and is a once a year event which just happened to coincide with your stay. We hope to see you (and your luggage!) again sometime soon!
Kind regards,
Chris and Jenny

My wife and I stayed at the Cairn Bay Lodge for the second time in two years. This time we stayed for eleven nights. We found the establishment run by Chris and Jenny Mullen to be even better than the last time we stayed. We were specially impressed by the very generous breakfast with fresh fruit, home made Irish bread and a variety of choices for a cooked breakfast. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished with great care taken for the comfort of guests. Extra's were provided, including home-made cake for supper. The en-suite was large and contained quality products. The family atmosphere was again warm and welcoming with nothing being too much trouble. We have detemined that the Cairn Bay Lodge will be our accommodation each time we visit Northern Ireland in the future. In conclusion the Cairn Bay Lodge was exceptional in every aspect.

For the traveller to find themselves at Cairn Bay Lodge would best be described as occupying a small piece of heaven. I had the very good fortune to stay there for two wonderful days in June, a truly civilised experience.

The Lodge, which is well and accurately described on it’s website, is situated in lovely grounds on one of Bangor’s bays. It is a wonderful and eclectic mixture of antiques and art with a warm and generous ambience that speaks to the love of family ownership. To start a morning in it’s oak panelled dining room with the exceptional gourmet breakfast, simply ambrosia and reward enough for any day.

Added to this is a delightful attention to detail for one’s comfort and needs. From the well appointed drawing room, stocked with books and literature about Bangor’s rich local history and the beautiful surrounding countryside; to the magic of a small cupboard that can supply everything from a DVD movie, for that quiet evening, or a toothbrush forgotten in the haste of packing. Also notable; treasures can be found in the gift shop and if yet further pampering is required, spa services are available.

My only regret; not having planned to stay there longer as hosts Chris and Jenny have graciously restored the true meaning of the word hospitality.

We stayed here for one night, before moving in to their self catering house next door with extended family for a weekend in Northern Ireland for a family wedding. We arrived fairly late and tired, and despite having to wait for 10 minutes for someone to answer the door, the welcome was warm and the hospility carried on in that vein. Chris and Jenny were friendly, accomodating and provided the best breakfast that i probably have had .... ever!
We stayed in a family room, which was comfy, well decorated, with some nice touches (crisps- yum- instead of plain bisuits to have with your tea/hot chocolate) and i have no doubt that if we wanted for anything Jenny an Chris would have tried their best to provide.
There was a home baked cake on the landing which i unfortunately didnt get to try (because we had had a big meal at the Jamaica Inn just along the road- very nice), but again, it was a nice touch.
Only comment: as a family, with kids, we didnt want to disturb them when they were sleeping so we went down to the lounge room..... which maybe could benefit from a small TV!

Thankyou for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and it is nice when someone appreciates all the little extras! We specifically don't have a TV in the guest lounge and it is for relaxing, reading and enjoying the views over the bay. We hope to see you all again soon!

The hotel is full of old furniture and has a lovely ambience. The hosts Chris and Jenny are most welcoming and even provided cake on our arrival. The grounds are extensive and pleasant and there is off street parking. The breakfast offered a wide variety of choice to suit everyone and included locally sourced produce.
The location is good too within walking distance of the town, but quiet.
Rooms are spacious and all different
