Lovely house, lovely people made you feel very welcome. Travelled with my husband and brother and sister in law and we all felt very welcome here. The breakfast was as good as, if not better than any 4star hotel we have stayed in. Plenty of fresh fruit and juices and an absolutely wonderful cooked breakfast. (which you order the night before which was not a problem) The room we had overlooked m Ballyholme Bay and was a good size with a lovely comforable bed and nice bathroom with a very old basin. There was a small fridge with mineral water and a good tea/coffe tray with biscuits, crisps and a bowl of sweets. At night when we came in there was cake waiting for us which was a nice touch. LCD TV, DVD and radio. The gardens were lovely and well tended. All in all a great place to stay only ten minutes walk to the town centre, with a lovely restaurant & bar (The Jamaica Inn ) on the way. Will definitely stay here again on next trip and recommend it to family and friends.

I stayed in the Brandesholme double bedroom on the right up the stairs. Amazing decor, mix of old world and modern. Nicer than some boutique hotels. Great to look out over the bay from the double bed. The snacks and wine glasses were a nice touch. Wifi without passcode. The cooked to order breakfast are lovely. Cake is available for guests. Plenty of parking at the back. This place has been well covered so I won't go into detail however I would definitely stay again.

From the first contact, you can tell the owners have good taste and know what makes guests happy. Easy interactions, spacious room, good sized bathroom, good water pressure -- the drain did not back up after a few moments of showering. Good lighting for reading, wi-fi, a hair dryer, two pillows per person, some candy, a couple of bags of potato chips, 2 waters in the little fridge, tissue paper in the loo, DVD player, nice TV that had more than one working channell, and I even found a pair of slippers in the closet.
The towels were large and soft.....and the soaps, etc. were first rate products.
There is secure parking in the back yard; town center is a 10 minute walk away. We had dinner at a place Chris recommended, and it was delicious. Stopped at the ice cream parlor across the street and had us a nice stroll through a pretty neighborhood returning to our accomodation.
You get a first rate experience in a beautiful Victorian manse with immaculate rooms at an affordable price. Oh, did I mention the Atlantic Ocean is across the street? We are winding up a 2 week round trip around the island, and this is our best accomodation. Not the most expensive -- but the best.

You are guaranteed a friendly welcome from Chris, Jenny and their daughters. They are very helpful, pointing out good eateries in the town, good locations to visit and how to get there. Any help you want, they give it.
The rooms are very well presented and maintained. Ignore any niggles in other reviews, we had no problems.
Yes you are asked to choose your breakfast items & time the evening before, but how much of a hardship is that? (Just make sure you've not had too much to drink in the Jamaica Inn otherwise you may forget what you ordered). We have experienced this in several B&B's and for very little effort on our part it improves the breakfast service immensely.
The breakfast itself if more than sufficient, the buffet cereals & fruit & juices are superb and the cooked breakfast is top quality, even the toast is very good. My wife certainly recommends the Smoked Salmon Omelette!!
Must mention the cake on the landing... help yourself!!
Overall EXCELLENT, you will feel part of the family. We first stayed in May 2008 and I was so impressed I took my wife back there on October for a Birthday surprise - I've never had so many 'brownie points'.

I'm not usually into the B&B thing, but I loved my stay. Breakfast was top notch, my room had a great view of the beach, and I never felt like anything but family.

We stayed for six nights at Cairn Bay Lodge, we chose it because of favourable Trip Advisor reviews. We were in the Ballyholme Bay room which was lovely and spacious, overlooking the bay. It was quite large and had a nice big bathroom, all very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was superb, cooked to perfection with a wide choice. The owners, Chris and Jenny, were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The house was just beautiful, the dining room was very stylish, yet homely. Although we only spent late evenings in the room it was great because there was a large tv, a fridge and sweets and chocolate available. Every evening there was cake put outside the rooms for guests to help themselves to. Whenever we wanted to dine in the town, Chris or Jenny were more than happy to ring and book us a table and also to make recommendations. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again and would highly recommend Cairn Bay Lodge.

The Cairn Bay Lodge is a beautiful house with lots of period features and decoration added to with a fair sprinkling of modern style. “Shabby Chic” beautifully executed.
Vintage furnishings married to modern prints and fabrics produce an easy going effortless style; a DVD player tucked underneath a classic sewing machine table, coffee, tea and biscuits supplied in an old leather suitcase, room keys attached to binoculars or pot pourri parcels. Quirky, fun and young!

The breakfast buffet is plentiful and can be followed by a selection of hot food that you pre-order the night before. This might seem an inconvenience to some but is no different to placing a room service card outside your door in a corporate hotel chain and you would certainly struggle to find much of the selection on offer at Cairn Bay Lodge on such a menu. In our experience the hot food was perfectly cooked, the smoothies not too smooth (a good thing!) and the presentation/attention to detail admirable - at that time of the morning.

The proprietors themselves are friendly, welcoming and unobtrusive, a real boon in a small establishment when you are effectively staying in someone else’s home.

Bobbing over the Irish Sea with no idea where we would be sleeping that night could have ended in disaster; thankfully the NITB came up trumps with a real gem of a small hotel. We hope to return but will book well in advance - I would recommend that you do too! As Cairn Bay Lodge is already an award winning establishment, I’m sure it’s popularity and success will continue.
