Nice walks along the shore. Fairly clean beach for so close to Belfast. Lots of dog walkers. Nice cafe.

This country park is brilliant for everyone though on public holidays and weekends in nice weather get there early as you can if you want a bbq as the place gets very crowded very quickly. Has a tea-room that serves good tea and coffee, passable meals/snacks but they don't do chips for some strange reason - everyone here loves a chip so they should rethink that aspect. Once again timing is important - after 2.pm it is difficult to get a cooked meal as the kitchen seems to wind down at that time and staff begin stacking the chairs on the tables around 3.pm even though closing is advertised as being 5.pm, so you have to resort to sitting out on the deck, which is nice enough, although in the summer the wasps are a big problem due to the overflowing refuse bins outside the doors. Toilet facilities in the information centre - okay so long as you are not the fussy type. Nice big open spaces, plenty of parking, but lots of dogs get brought here too so mind where you put your feet...

CCP is very large and is always busy at weekend and public holidays. It's best for those who like going for long walks. There are parkland walks along streams and through the trees or from here you can join the North Down Costal Path which runs from Holywood to Bangor. There's 2 sandy beaches 1 @ Crawfordsburn and 1 @ Helen's Bay. A Visitor Centre sits in the middle of the park and has some interesting displays and a Cafe. There are toilets in the visitors centre and at the Crawfordsburn beach car park. The also run special nature events from time to time.

I visited the Helen's Bay Beach area of the Park on Monday 25/7/11. I was there with my husband and 6 year old daughter. I was a regular visitor there as a child and later on, playing about, swimming, exercising my dogs and having beach BBQs. It is an idyllic site, clean beach with views across Belfast Lough and beyond. There is a Car Park with toilet facilities about 50m from the main beach and a walkway with rockpools around the coastal path. Dogs are welcome - the well behaved ones, allowed off the lead, and many doggy poo bins are within the site. I would say that 98% of owners abide by this - there are always the dispicable few. A fun bunch of teenagers were there on Monday, complete with 'girls' and a few disposable BBQs and it was so entertaining to watch them brave the cold water on a cloudy day to swim, dive and impress! Our daughter delighted in jumping waves and collecting 'treasures' to bring home. Sand Castles are a staple.
