sorry but i found our stay here just average, i have stayed in better most of the staff were lovely but there were some not so pleasant, the room was ok but the mattress on the little bed provided for my daughter was all soiled , hence she slept in with us in our bed anyway, disappointed to be charged £15 because my daughter is 5yr old was given this z bed in a room that had a bed big enough for 4 people! received coffee which i couldnt drink because the cup i was given had lip-stick marks on it, quite of putting really. in total not the worst but definately not the best.

Room Tip: double check size of bed you are getting as they all vary

This hotel is a little gem, great surroundings, fantastic staff. Rooms are a good size and very well equipped, the little touches (like the home made short bread in the room) make the experience that little bit more special!

We booked a three for two b&b with 2 dinner deal on the Internet, the hotel having been recommended by a friend. The location is very rural, yet just a few minutes drive from Belfast, Bangor or Newtownards. You'll need a car if you want to visit any of the numerous local attractions such as Mount Stewart house and gardens, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum etc.

The hotel is an interesting piece (or pieces of architecture) with a function suite separate from the compact accommodation block. The public area is open plan, with one end being dedicated to the little restaurant. There is limited seating, and none elsewhere, so you will probably spend a fair amount of time in the bedroom.

Ours was very comfortably furnished, and clean, with good decor in muted tones, and white duvet covers and sheets. The bathroom was stocked with an environmentally friendly range of shower gels, shampoos and body lotions, all of which were good quality. The real luxury was the extensive range of teas, coffees and organic chocolate drinks on the hospitality tray, together with an Espresso machine, and a box of speciality coffees for the machine.

The hotel is a popular wedding venue, with guests obviously choosing to stay over. Most others were 40 pluses, enjoying the rural tranquility and good food. There was no play area that we could see, and few young families.

Meals were very attractively presented as well as being tasty. Cooked breakfast was served at table, and the same attention to detail given to presentation.

A discussion with a manager on tasty ways to cook fish resulted in my husband being offered his favourite battered fish and chips, which were on another menu not usually availble on our package. "We work with the customer to give what's wanted", we were told. A minor staff oversight where no milk was left on our tray ended up with a delivery of two bottles of mineral water and enough milk for Cleopatra to bath in!

Excellent service, and every comfort, plus bunnies underneath the window each morning, meant a lovely stay, and we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: During the wedding season you might want to book a room to the left (same side as restaurant) to avo...

We were attending a family wedding at the hotel, and had booked an extended stay over 6 nights to catch up with family & friends. Absolutely excellent hotel, with staff whose unobtrusive professionalism really made the difference. Comfortable rooms, impressive grounds, and food to die for. (Particularly impressed by the quality of the catering at the wedding reception - as good as if you were just having a quiet dinner in the restaurant.) Perfect ingredients, superbly cooked and presented.
Without a doubt will stay here again when we next visit Bangor.
