First of all I have to start by saying that Clandeboye Lodge itself is really lovely. The food was truly scrumptous so much so that we had ALL our meals there for the entire weekend.
It was reasonably priced considering the very high quality of the food.
The staff were tremendously helpful, polite and friendly and I will certainly go back.
I got the impression from the webiste that the LODGE was part of the Clandeboye estate, which it appears to be, but the estate home I believe to the Dufferin Family, is private so access is obvioualy limited.
The facilities at Clandeboye lodge are quite limited - One big room serves as Lobby, bar, reception and restaurant area although it is nicely decorated and very relaxing.
The rooms are functional but dated. There is a DVD library but the DVD selection is very dated. There were only or 4 TV stations working.
The hotel is in the countryside and Bangor town is probably 3 or 4 miles away.
There are no leisure facilities of any kind.
There was a wedding on in the function area (not joined on to the lodge) and this appeared to be a beautiful venue.
Overall the Clandeboye Lodge is a lovely venue for a very quiet weekend away with really delicious food and I would recommend for that.

When the notion of going out for Sunday lunch pops into our heads the next question usually causes a lot of scratching of said heads; where will we go that i(a) s not a fill-your-boots dull old carvery, (b) will serve freshly prepared yummy Sunday-ish food and (c) won't mind us bringing along a toddler and a 4 year old. We have found that place! We visited last Sunday at 12.30 and the girls were able to run around outside in the grounds before going in. The waiting staff grinned encouragingly at our girls and although the restaurant looked posh-ish they immediately provided colouring-in kits and crayons that surpassed any previous versions elsewhere. We usually stick to just main courses when out with the children and while our mains were delicious and perfectly cooked (I had roasted cod, he had lamb - both with really good sauces and sides) it was the childrens' dishes that were really impressive. No deep fried chicken or processed chipolatas - they had noodles with veggies and kebabs with a sweet dipping sauce. Portions were large for our wee ones but we didn't mind helping them out! They're kiddies ice-cream is also on the large side but really well presented - we were so impressed with the care taken with their food. My only complaint - not so good for our vegetarian friends; Clandeboye, non meat eaters also need to eat on Sundays so please try to have at least one more meat-free main course?

We had a weekend break at the Clandeboye during January 2012 and took advantage of their excellent Winter Warmer offer. This is my third or fourth time staying at this hotel and I always come away impressed.
The atmoshere is friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are a great asset to the place.
I for one shall be returning.
