“Elegant luxury and warm hospitality, and all on our doorstep!”
Reviewed 16 December 2010

Our 3 night break (bed and breakfast and 1 evening meal) at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel was just what we needed after a hard year and in the run-up to Christmas. All the staff were genuinely friendly and professional, and not at all patronising. By the end of our stay we felt that we were just part of the Clandeboye Lodge family (a very good feeling!) and we will visit them again soon! Several aspects of our stay require specific mention; (1) the range and quality of the food generally, but especially the dinner menu was superb, so much so that instead of trying out a local restuarant as we had planned we ate in for 2 of the nights; (2) the ambience of sitting in the foyer lounge, at the fire having a drink and reading, and being part of the 'Clandeboye buzz' was just amazing; and (3) the close proximity to the countryside and the coast, city centre shopping (Belfast) and ease of access to and from regional towns (Bangor and Newtownards) just made the stay stress-free!
Pamela and I had a great time and will have no problems recommending the Clandboye Lodge to friends and family, and we look forward to enjoying hospitality there again in the near future - if only for a meal!

We went there witha group of friends for a wedding. From phone calls prior to our visit to our last minutes there the service throughout was excellent. Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff.
Our room (superior) was large, comfortable and had everything we could have wanted (including an espresso machine as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities!)
The en suite was smallish but clean and with a great shower as well as a bath.
Bar and restaurant facilities were also excellent and the Christmas menu was especially good value. Bar prices too, very reasonable for a 4 star hotel.
The hotel is about 15 miles East of Belfast and much better served by Belfast City airport rather than Belfast International. It is out in the country and set in its own lovely grounds.
We all liked the staff best. they were just superb.

We had our wedding here in August 2010 and couldn't have asked for anything better.

We had looked at other hotels in the area but what really swung me was the Exclusively yours package. We got married on a Monday and with this package it meant that we were the only wedding on that day which was great as I would have been put off if there was another wedding on the same day.

I am so glad I chose the Clandeboye Lodge it was perfect a mix of the old and new.
In the run up to the wedding the staff in the events team were extremely helpful and offered advice and suggestions whenever they could.

We got married in the Blackwood suite which was beautiful. The weather was quite dull that day but walking into the Blackwood suite with the chandeliers on and the candelabras at the front lit up it was gorgeous.

The grounds are great for photos and as the weather cleared up we were able to get some in the side garden.

We had our reception in the Viceroy suite which was set up really nice. The food at the reception was lovely and I liked how guests got a choice of what they wanted. We were recommended the hotels DJ and disco was really good.

As for the honeymoon suite, it was gorgeous. I would definitely recommend the Clandeboye lodge.

I have been staying here 5/6 times a year for the past 4 years. Is this a good hotel - yes, is it as good as it was on your first stay - no. All the little touches that made your visit a great one have gone. The reception staff remain as a first class feature with their ever present smile and helpfulness. The rooms are now looking a little tired and in particular the bathrooms. The ever present smell of damp in the ground floor corridor is not good and has been a feature for a while. Dirty carpets?
So what caused me to write this? As a business traveller I always enjoy a couple of pints in whatever hotel bar I am in after a har p
d day of meetings/ flights etc. The bar prices at this hotel are now outrageous for the surroundings you are in and the level of service given. At £3.65 per pint it is more expensive than Malmaison, Belfast City and even The Dorchester, Mayfair, London! Free bar snacks-no, option to purchase said bar snacks-no. If you are going to have the cheek/greed to charge prices like this then at least provide a service that matches. Oh by the way, 3 years ago you would have been offered a selection of nibbles without even having to ask.

What can I say what an amazing hotel. First off the staff are a credit to the management especially the reception ladies. Rooms are high quality and the food is also great. I really liked the way the breakfast was not buffet style but could be ordered. This hotel is ideal if you have transport. Bangor train station is a short distance away and is much more attractive than driving into Belfast. We will definitely be back. Ps thanks a mill to the hotel staff all weekend for making our stay so hassle free and enjoyable. Special mention to the staff who were super in getting my jacket returned to me after leaving it behind.

We had our wedding at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel in September 2010 and had an absolutely fantastic day!
Staff were very helpful during the planning stage, and made sure every little detail was planned just the way we wanted it. On the wedding day itself there were plenty of staff on hand making sure that we and our guests were well looked after.
Our ceremony was in the Blackwood Suite which is such a pretty room, I cannot imagine that you could get a nicer room if having your service in a hotel - it has such character.
The grounds of the hotel are lovely for photographs with lots of nice greenery. We also went to the nearby beach at Crawfordsburn to get photographs taken, which is an option if having your wedding at this hotel. We got great photos taken with our bridal party walking along the beach, this was great fun too!
We had our reception in the Clandeboye Suite which looked gorgeous with all the tables set and decorated. It was great that the bar was in the same room which meant guests did not have to leave the room to get drink. After our meal, the room was turned around and changed to make a black and silver theme for our evening entertainment, with little lights on a black background behind the stage - the room looked totally different from the way it looked during the day, it looked really great and really set the mood for the evening!
The food was amazing! So many of our guests commented that it was the nicest food they had had a wedding. We gave our guests a choice of 2 options for each course which we sent out with the wedding invitations which we thought was a nice idea and worked well. The pass around canapes which we had after the service were also very tasty and there was a good selection.
We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was gorgeous - the bathroom was very plush and the bed was huge!
Our day was just perfect, I could not fault the hotel or staff at all. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Had a fab time, flawless staff, food, rooms and service!! Only downside...there was a very rowdy wedding party group on our last night when we were having our 'night in' fish and chips with a DVD. Which kinda was a downer! But obviously could not be avoided...will be back in future for another break!!
