Set in a Manor house with grounds the hotel is as comfortable as you cold wish for. Excellent food, had an evening meal and cooked breakfast and both were delicious. Quiet and good nights sleep. Great hosts and very good value for money. Will be using this hotel in future, a nice relaxed place to stay. The antidote to the contrived boutique hotel.

we were fortunate to spend a long weekend at Oakwood at the end of February 2013 amidst sunshine and crocus. Our room was fabulous, and so was the hospitality and attention; never intrusive but always a step ahead if you know what I mean. We were just a few miles from The wall, and Gretna and Carlisle too - the latter a really nice place! to visit. I would imagine that come summer, the hotel would really blossom and feel warmer, but that's our climate for you. I think it lacks shower facilities and an open fire, but this is not a criticism, more observation. A very, very nice place.

Oakwood Park Hotel was recommended to us by a friend who had been on a walking break with friends along Hadrian's Wall. We were not disappointed. We arrived on a dank, damp and dark November early evening to a bright, warm welcome - warm in every way - the temperature of the house and the smiles of our charming hostess, Wendy.
Our room was large and comfortable, in this large and comfortable house, set well back from the road, so no traffic noise. We had a sofa, desk and writing chair as well as a small table and two other chairs by the window, so we were spoilt for choice when it came to 'parking' ourselves.
Wendy and her daughter run this lovely place themselves and a wonderful job they do too.
The menu was extensive and the food absolutely delicious with the vegetables being home grown. The breakfast too was superb.
Anyone who enjoys architecture and interior design can drool over the decor and plaster-work of the drawing room and dining room - a bonus!
For anyone planning a walking break, needing a quiet, restorative place to recover and regroup before the next day's hike, or over-night en-route to somewhere else, they could do no better than Oakwood Park Hotel at Brampton. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

(Although we visited the Oakwood in November 2009, just recently realized that initial review posted under another profile.) WOW!!! Not much more could actually encompass the whole stay! Absolutely lovely manor; very absolutely wonderful meals!! Why leave the grounds to go to a restaraunt in town? The hosts were absolutely lovely, and did their best to anticipate all of our needs; the meals are top-notch! The critters are all adorable -- even the rooster! Only problem with him is that the "snooze alarm" doesn't stop! The grounds were absolutely gorgeous, with a garden area (I dubbed it the "Secret Garden" because of it reminded me of the childhood story) and gnomes. I could not have asked for a more pleasant, hospitable stay anywhere! My husband booked all our accomodations for our first trip to the Lake District (our 21st anniversary trip), and I do have to say everything else for the rest of the trip couldn't measure up! BTW -- did I say it was "absolutely" the very best?

Although we had to stay in the area due to a sad occasion, the hotel did not disappoint. The host was lovely and made us feel very welcome. A lovely old house, our party took up 3 rooms, all very nice/clean/large and had anything you'd possibily need. Bed was very comfy and got pretty warm at night so i wouldnt suggest putting on the extra heater we had.
Good location for brampton and hadrians wall, and for Carlise.
Well priced and included an amazing breakfast!!! Fresh fruit followed by great poached eggs and lots of toast. I heard the coffee was very nice too!

Room Tip: Speak to the host about your needs - some rooms had a bath rather than standing alone shower and vice versa!
