“Wonderful Accommodations on Hadrian's Wall Walk”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

This Bed and Breakfast establishment is located right on Hadrian's Wall path, approximately an hour to hour and a half walk from the path junction for the trail to the Lancaster Priory (and Abbey Bridge B & B). We chose to skip the visit to the Lancaster Priory because of the additional walking distance involved.

We were welcomed upon our arrival at about 7 p.m. that evening by the friendly proprietor, Elizabeth. She invited us to deposit our ruck sacks in our room and relax in her backyard patio (the house is situated on top of a hillside) where we could enjoy the scenic pastoral views with a refreshing beer while waiting for the next trip to the closest pub for dinner. It was a delightfully warm evening and we very much appreciated Elizabeth's and her spouse's warm hospitality, We were driven to the pub, approximately a 10 minute drive from this B & B, where we enjoyed a tasty dinner; the pub proprietor drove us home per prior arrangement with the B & B.
Our room and bed were clean, comfortable and quiet. The shared bathroom was clean, spacious and the shower was absolutely delightful. We enjoyed a good night's sleep and good English style breakfast the next morning. All in all, a delightful stop-over on the Hadrian's Wall path and one that we, as a senior couple, would highly recommend to other walkers.

This is one of the best B&B on Hadrian's Wall trail. It is well situated, right on the path. The house is lovely and the landlady Elizabeth was most friendly and helpful. She also helped us with laundry even though we had some very muddy, dirty clothes to wash!

We stayed here whilst backpacking across Hadrian's Wall. The campsite was a gorgeous field which we had all to ourselves. It is very basic with just a portaloo and cold water tap- however, it has picnic benches which are just so useful whilst backpacking and great to see. The portaloo was clean, cleaner than some proper campsite toilets we stayed in on this trip! The great benefit was that the owner offered to take us to the local pub, who would then bring us back later that evening. This is such a lovely touch and we really appreciated it, and the owner was friendly and chatty whilst driving us over. The only downside is that I feel without any showers and such basic facilities, £5 pppn is a little much compared to other sites for the same price. We were offered breakfast, which we would've had as I'm sure it's lovely but again £7 each is just too much for us to pay unfortunately. Overall would recommend though, it really is stunning.

Two weary, hot Hadrian's Wall pilgrims were greeted at the door by Elizabeth and were ushered on to the patio for cake and tea, before being taken to our spacious twin-room. Then a look at the incredible bathroom, with its extra-long, walk-in shower!

An extremely comfortable evening was admirably enhanced by David taking us to the 'Belted Will Inn' (apparently approx. 3.5 miles, though the lovely, winding lanes made it feel more like 6 or 7). After a super meal with other Quarryside residents - yes, David made two return trips - the chef/landlord returned us all to Quarryside in his 'people-carrier.

An exceedingly restful night's sleep was followed by a superb, full English breakfast, before we hit the HW trail again. Yes, the shower was every bit as good as it first looked!

A top-class B&B stop, with top-class hosts!

Thank you for your report. I am proud of my bathroom too, it took a lot of thought but I got there in the end but I need to add another butterfly or two!!! Sadly it is too wet today for visitors to sit on the patio. I hope you will visit this area again.

It doesn't seem that there is anything left to say about this bed and breakfast but we would nevertheless like to add our comments to all the superlatives that seem to have already been written.

A bed and breakfast is about a friendly, informal and comfortable experience. It is often difficult to get it just right - a host can be over-anxious, too intrusive, too precious but we found Quaryside to offer the perfect mix of hospitality, comfort , good food and discretion . Our hostess clearly loves what she does and this makes all her guests feel exceptionally welcome and not just two of a chain of visitors.

As with other guests we were welcomed with home made biscuits and tea and a geniune interest from Elizabeth about what we were doing and where we had been etc. The surrounding countryside is qunitessentially English - lush and green while we were there. A lovely experience all round.

This was the 5th day of our Hadrian's Wall Walk Challenge and arrived exhausted to a lovely greeting from Elizabeth. Her husband was going to drive us to a pub for dinner but we had 1/2 an hour to get ready! They have a gorgeous shared bathroom with a roll top bath and a walk-in shower. Unfortunately we didn't have time to take advantage of the gorgeous bath but the shower was amazing. Can't remember the name of the pub but the landlord gave us a lift back and even stopped off at Lanercost Priory and the castle for us to take photos for our collection! Elizabeth provided a great breakfast including soya milk that I'd asked for. She also provides packed lunches upon request. Quarryside is a real home from home as her beautiful friendly cat Monica and her Jack Russell are always around. Would happily stay here again.

We arrived after a long 15 mile walk from Steel Rig on Hadrians Wall completely exhausted to be welcomed by Elizabeth who immediately sat us down in her lovely lounge and served us with home made muffins and a large pot of tea. Couldn't have been a better host. The rooms are beautiful with very comfortable beds. As there are no local pubs or restaurants
Elizabeth's husband took us by car to the "Belted Will" pub for an evening meal. The Landlord who also happens to be the Chef then took us back in his car to the guest house free of charge! Great service. Breakfast the following morning was outstanding. Many thanks to Elizabeth and David.
