“Best Family Holiday”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

We have just come back from a weeks holiday here at Coombe Mill and stayed in Millers House which is a 5 bedroom property which managed to accomodate 5 adults 3 of which were grandparents and 3 children comprising of 3 year old twins and a 1 year old.

The feed runs were great and the twins still chat about them and what they saw. The use of different types of ply equipment indoors and out and toys, books etc to borrow mean't for once that they were occupied the whole time especially on one rainy day when we decided not to leave Coombe Mill!

The family were freindly and informative and the properties were well maintained. Great value for money as I have looked high and low to find a property that could accomodate everyone with ease.

I would highly recommend and would look to return in a few years once our youngest can also appreciate the surroundings and whats on offer.

We have just had the privilege of being the first visitors to stay in TreeRoots at Coombe Mill, with our 3 grandchildren (all under 3). The location of Coombe Mill is stunning. A real retreat from the world, in peaceful surroundings far from the madding crowds, truly idyllic, but thank god for satnavs!!

The children absolutely loved the tractor animal feed runs in the mornings and the little train ride every evening. Molly was very proud to drive the tractor, encouraged by farmer Nick, and was delighted to pick up her certificate at the end of the week.

The house is stunning, and very well equipped and the adults enjoyed exclusive use of the hot tub. There is even under floor heating if required and a wood burner! Everything is geared up for small children with safety gates, high chairs, cots and a play room stocked with toys, rocking horse, DVD player and bean bags! Perfect for young families and grandparents alike. immaculate.

Overall this holiday exceeded my expectations and my very discerning 3 year old granddaughter absolutely loved it! Everyone, owners, fellow guests and staff were most friendly and helpful.

TopTip..try Fiona's Baileys bread and butter pudding - worth every penny as delicious!
Thank you Nick and Fiona and family. hopefully see you next year :)

Entertainment abound at Coombe Mill. True the place is expensive for what it is, but it is fantastic for those with little ones who are looking for a near petting farm experience. Nick the owner runs the place with boundless enthusiasm, like a latter day Basil Fawlty on a tractor. Hidden in a little valley the range of accommodation is good, although the cheaper cabins do spoil the aesthetic somewhat and look like the film set from 'The great escape.' The larger log cabins have all mod cons and most things work well, but remember to bring plenty of coins for the electricity meter. Give Coombe Mill a go, remember to pack clothes for all weather, an open mind and a sense of humour and you will love it.

Thank you for reviewing us here and giving your feed back. With regards to the older & cheaper riverside lodges this is the last year they are likely to be rented. The plan is to move to the Scandinavian format for that side of Coombe Mill just as fast as funds and planning will allow.

We've not had a holiday in a very long time but for my fiancé's 30th birthday I knew Coombe Mill would be great for our children as well as for him too as he loves getting away from city life. My son enjoyed the tractor trips to see the animals, we got to meet chicks and watch them grow, go hunting for eggs which if there's enough are then offered to everyone to take home with them, feed the pigs (everyone brings any old vegetable peelings and bits of fruit), visit the goats and then get to see the beautiful deer who are a bit shy but once the stag came out of hiding the rest soon followed and having been brought up in the countryside myself it's not every day you get to see deer close up so was chuffed for my family to see them and learn about them. It did rain but the sound of the river was relaxing and there was an indoor play area plus toys you can borrow from the reception. There's also a fire hut which we used and we all enjoyed the warmth as well as tasty BBQ food.
The owners are helpful and when one of the smoke alarms started to randomly go off we contacted Fiona and she got someone to come straight over and fix it for it, great service! We even borrowed some of the cloth nappies to help reduce the waste as it is such a beautiful area. My son enjoyed all the slides and trampoline and our baby girl had no issues sleeping in a different place.
I'll be sure to book for my own 30th birthday, even if it does rain the relaxation of the whole area is worth it.

Room Tip: The cheap riverside lodges are basic thus the low price, I'd recommend going for the Scandinavia...

Thank you for taking time to review us here Helen, and I hope we will see you again. Thank you for the tip to others in the riverside lodges, they are much cheaper than the Scandinavian Lodges and cottages reflecting the fact they are very small, lack modern features and becoming dated despite redecorating. We hope to gain planning permission to move to the prefered Scandinavian format soon.

Coombe Mill has been designed to ensure your family holiday is as stress free, entertaining and welcoming as possible. My toddler enjoyed every second and even after being home for a week, still talks about it every day. Highly recommended. I have written a piece on our stay on our blog if you want to read more details http://www.rugglesleisure.com/general/coombe-mill-holiday-farm-memory-making

Room Tip: We stayed in Trebah one of the lodges and it was wonderful.

I stumbled across the existence of Coombe Mill on Twitter as the owner is a fairly prolific blogger. I found the £1000 for the week slightly expensive, compared to abroad prices, however as an owner of a British tourist attraction I am well aware of growing costs which need to be justified. We justified this cost by going "halves" with another family. We stayed in Millers House. There was plenty of space, the house was spotless and kept up to a wonderful condition (considering it was built in the 1600s!) the windows were in superb condition (again these can go on older properties). There was a fair few ants around but it is the countryside, there's no escaping insects! The petting farm was fab, and I liked that we could go down whenever we liked and not just on the morning "tour" as we tended to be out at other attractions first thing. Nick and Fiona are truly a delight, and it was lovely to see their children pitching in on the farm. Expensive? Yes I'd say so. Slightly disappointed to find things like salt and pepper weren't left in the property and weren't really worth buying. Would I return? Absolutely. I got to see the new house Treetops, and was hugely impressed. The children had a fantastic time, and I came home relaxed! Look forward to going back next year.

Thank you for taking time to review us and glad our oldest property gave you the accommodation space you all needed for 2 families to share. Tree roots is fast becoming the popular choice from all who see it.
