Lots of military memorabilia and a reminder of how our ancestors fought - so very hands on. So many stories, your heart goes out to what those men went through and such a reminder of their sacrifices and yet we are all still sacrificing our men (and now women) around the world. A very sobering experience really, very interesting and to view takes a few hours. Everyone of all ages should go and take a guided tour before a wander around..

I
Was amazed that entry to the museum is free for certain elements of serving and ex serving Regimental members but to other serving and ex forces personnel admission is full price ?
Outrageous
One rule for one and one for others ?
Surely all serving and ex serving armed forces personnel should be treated the same ?

Hi Robert, thank you for raising your concerns with us.
I'm sure you understand that due to the threat to the museum's MOD funding, paired with our rising running costs, we feel that we must charge admission, however much we wish we didn't have to. We do try to keep it as reasonable as possible; as you already know it's just £6 for an adult's annual pass, with ages 6-18 years at £2 (under 6's are free) as well as other concessions. Cornwall's Regimental Museum is a registered charity and we rely on admission charges, sales from our shop and second hand book room, as well as donations to keep the museum in operation. We do allow former members of our regiments (the DCLI, SCLI and LI) to enter the museum with a discretionary donation, as without them we wouldn't have a museum at all! However, unfortunately we are not in a position to offer the same to all serving and former service personnel, although we very much wish we could. We hope that you understand.
We hope that you had an enjoyable visit despite this, and if you'd like to discuss this matter further please do give us a call, we're always happy to hear your views and ideas for ways in which we can improve.
Thank you once again, and best wishes.

I spotted this museum from the railway and thought I would take a look around. I was not disappointed and enjoyed seeing all the exhibits in this well structured museum.
As you walk through you experience in stages the historic to the modern era. I was delighted with my visit and amazed at the weapons that were on display.

My wife and I visited on a typical rainy Cornish Sunday. We took the guided tour around the site and spent a couple of hours looking at the varied and interesting displays. Parking isn't easy to find nearby so best to visit on a Sunday or come early.

Thank you for your review - it seems that you were fortunate enough to visit us on one of our special open days! We don't often do guided tours except by prior arrangement. This may be why you found the parking so busy. The museum's free car park (behind the museum) usually has spaces, and if not there is a pay and display car park 100 metres from the museum in Victoria Square.
We hope that you enjoyed your visit despite the rain, and we hope to see you again sometime!

Thank you very much for your kind review! We're so pleased that you came to visit us, and we hope that you learned something about your family connections with the DCLI. Did you know that we have a volunteer research team who help over 300 families a year to discover their military family history? (you can find out more on the Learning / Research pages of our website).
We hope to see you all again soon!
