“How a station café should be.”
Review of Signal Box Cafe

Signal Box Cafe
Ranked #35 of 72 Restaurants in Bodmin
Cuisines: British
Description: One of my stranger suggestions. Run by the charity who operate a small branch line which meets the main Paddington to Penzance line at this station, the old signal box, up a short staircase is a quaint but friendly and hospitable snack bar on an otherwise isolated and inhospitable station. The limited profits go to the charity but the food is tasty simple and very good value. A useful novelty that might otherwise go unnoticed. Worth a listing.

Dropped in for a freshly cooked egg and bacon bap and a cup of tea while waiting for my train. Great view of the station and friendly service. The complete opposite of the sterile, bland, overpriced offerings at your usual station outlet. Refreshing.

Although there are some late twentieth century items, it mostly reminded me of what a pre-war buffet may have felt like. Nothing very tasty. All a bit basic but filling and tasty in a simple functional way. It fed and watered me after walking through the park and woods from Lanhydrock.

Lovely little cafe with good food at a good price. Just right after a walk to/from Respryn Bridge and Lanhydrock. Great friendly service and one of the best bacon and egg baps for miles.

You would think in this day and age, Vegetarians would be able to get a Vegetrian Sausage Bab or a Vegetarain Bacon Bab? But no not in this café, only a Fried Egg Bap. The Lady who works here refuses to cater for Vegetarians, and even questions you why you are a Vegetarian and tells you, you should not be one? Best to wait until you are on the train, or until you get to where ever you are going?

Popped in here whilst waiting for the train to London. It was nice to sit by the window and watch the steam train which was preparing to depart. Felt like I had stepped back in time! I do like the fact that use had been made of the old signal box to provide a quirky independent station cafe. Much better than one of the usual chains.

Enjoyed a decent cup of coffee but the absolute best thing was the delicious coffee and walnut cake. I got a huge slice which was packed with walnuts and oozing with butter cream - a real treat!
