Just occasionally you encounter something, some place, that is so much better than the rest that it leaves you breathless. Such is the case with Cabilla Manor. Never in all our travels have we been so bowled over by a B and B. Actually, to call it a B and B does not begin to give a flavour of the place. It's more like a 5-star home from home. From the warm welcome, to the lovely room, to the long soak in a hot bath after a rainy walk, to the offered pre-bed brandy in the beautiful lounge: absolute luxury. But Cabilla Manor has an extra gear, and it comes in the hosts themselves. Robin and Louella could not have been nicer or more fascinating people. We so enjoyed the great chats over breakfast in the conservatory, enabling us to scrape the surface of their extraordinary lives. All in all, it was just like a country house weekend with old friends; a quite extraordinary experience.
If there is a better place than this to stay in Cornwall, we'll eat our hats!!

Room Tip: "Harry" is a bit bigger than "Peter" and has sumptuous views.

I stopped on my way to the Fowey Regatta with my 10 year old daughter. We were warmly greeted by Lowella and Robin, our hosts.

I slept between egyptian cotton sheets, a great luxury and awoke to a wonderful view of the early morning mists lifting from Bodmin Morre. Breakfast was delicious, taken in a beautiful conservatory with our hosts.

A thoroughly worth while stop and if you are interested in listening to a travellers tale, then you'll enjoy Robin.

I highly recommend a visit.

What more can I add to the comments of previous reviewers? The perfect B & B and in Louella and Robin the perfect hosts. Having stayed in their Charlestown cottage in 2010 I was not going to pass up the next available opportunity to spend a night at their charming farmhouse on Bodmin Moor. It is much more than a B & B, it is more like a paying guest in their own home. The rooms are all a delight and tea on the lawn after a six hour drive from Felixstowe was a luxury we did not expect. A stroll around the garden brought us to the tennis court with its surround of an amazing wildflower meadow full of colour and summer scents.

For dinner we were booked into the St Tudy Inn where again we could not have been made more welcome with excellent food. After a very peaceful night’s sleep a brisk walk up on Bodmin Moor before breakfast brought on the appetite though we didn’t take advantage of Louella’s invitation to swim in the lake, inviting though it was!

For me having visited some of the places that Robin has written about in his books, such as Mulu in Sarawak, the chance of talking with the man himself was a real privilege. I thank him for the time he gave both at tea and at breakfast to share some of his experiences with us.

Room Tip: Just let your host do the choosing

Imagine pulling onto a gravel drive outside a handsome listed manor house, being greeted like an old friend by a charming hostess then enjoying a pot of tea and homemade biscuits overlooking the croquet lawn..... I knew I was going to love Cabilla Manor from the moment I arrived!

It is a special place, a rural oasis, nestling in a wooded glade with the most glorious views of Bodmin Moor. The only sounds are the rustle of the breeze in the trees and the variety of birdsong. You just can't help but relax.

However the feeling of peace and relaxation created by the setting is matched by the wonderful welcome from Robin and Louella; theirs is the kind of old fashioned warmth and hospitality you hardly think exists anymore. A lovely experience in every respect.

We had a great long weekend in the wonderful country house of Robin and Louella!
Cabilla Manor is like a little paradise ! It seems like the fields in our childhood dreams!!
Robin and Louella made us feel like friends and not just paying guests. The breakfast was freshly cooked by Louella every morning and the room was perfectly tidy , clean and definitely with the character of 18th century !!
It is a fantastic experience and made us feel more than tourists in Cornwall!!
Definitely Cabila Manor is strongly recommended

Robin and Louella HT, and of course the lovely Julia. More welcoming, interesting, and unique hosts will not be found, even in the remotest corners of South America, because Robin has checked himself! His tales of his great explorations, adventures, and now his drive for sustainable living and farming combined with Louella's experiences of growing up in Cornwall and subsequent climb to High Sheriff will not leave you disappointed. Where else can you sit down to breakfast with a couple so well travelled, yet so keen to lean about you and chat away, whatever time, to make you feel nothing is too much trouble. The house is lovely, you can take full advantage of the large living areas, as well as enjoy the prIvacy of fine bedrooms. Splendid mature countryside surrounds the house and the tennis court (which in our opinion, boasts one of the finest views), not to mention the secluded private lake for a welcome dip at the end of a summer day. The afternoon tea served outside on the patio was quintissentially english and the offer of a glass of port before bed is not to be missed.

Room Tip: All rooms are good quality. The fitness centre is the tennis court and the great outdoors. The swimmi...
