We have returned from a lovely stay in a lodge, which was clean and had a lovely veranda. It is very close to the camel trail ,and hiring bikes which were delivered to the site was great. the shop is excellent- local produce , high quality and reasonable prices. each morning you could buy freshly cooked bagguetes and croissants . the couple who run the site are very helpful and friendly. will definately return again.

We had the most relaxing holiday camping at this site. We chose to go in a quiet period and had the site virtually to ourselves. The setting couldn't get much more idilic and service was second to none.

Firstly we would like to say a big thankyou to Andrew and Nicola for making our stay at Ruthern Valley absolutely brilliant. They were so warm and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. We visited Ruthern on a number of occasions and love every minute of it. It was such a relaxing holiday... especially watching the wildlife. The rooms were made ready for us. It was nice walking into a warm lodge as they had warmed every room for us when we arrived as it was a cold evening. We will most definately be booking for next year and we can HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for that peaceful holiday. We found the holiday home from home and we know that you will too. We've only just met Andrew and Nicola but we feel we have known them for years. Thankyou for making our holiday a special one!! Best Wishes, Alan and Charmaine

We visited Ruthern Valley in July 2008 with our two boys, age 5 and 9 months. After a long drive down from West Yorkshire we stayed in one of the lodges and the whole holiday from start to finish was brilliant. The lodge was very clean when we arrived, the owners very helpful and prompt when we requested baby equipment and they gave us some excellent ideas for places to visit. The lodge has a big map of Cornwall on the kitchen wall and this helped us to figure out how far away things were. We ate our evening meal there every night, outside on the picnic table. The beds were very comfortable, the shower great, the kitchen fully equipped etc. The best part of the site is the outside spaces though, it's open enough for children to play but feels safe enough to be able to let them wander a bit - we played cricket and tennis outside our lodge, saw squirrels, frogs and birds and our 5 year old loved the play area. It was great that there were facilities to recycle our waste and the central location of the site allowed us to visit both coasts and other attractions such as the Eden Project (excellent) and The Monkey Sanctuary. The owners were so nice that they even posted home some forgotten clothing we'd left in our lodge. We all had a brilliant holiday and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We've been several times to stay in the lodges and the place just keeps getting better. The owners Andrew and Nicola tell us they are running an ongoing programme of maintenance (although not sure what they can possibly do about improving the stunning location...!) so the lodges and surrounds look better every time we go. The lodges aren't posh but they're very clean and comfortable, especially if you're used to camping - simple, functional and good value, but now even more so with the new linen, comfy new sofa beds, new curtains - not to mention new kitchens in some.
The shop sells all the expected staples plus fresh eggs (some from their own chickens) in the morning, hot baked baguettes for brekky or packed lunch, newspapers to order, Indian curries in the fridge if you can't be bothered to cook in the evening - great service. It's a very quiet location - there's a great play area for the kids away from the accommodation and lots of grassy areas around the lodges for smaller kids to run around on. Camel trail very close for cycling, but be prepared for a bit of driving (20-50mins) to get to the Cornish hotspots like Padstow & Rock, great surfing beaches for the older kids, Eden Project, Wadebridge etc.

We stayed for 1 night to attend a family funeral and camped at Ruthern Valley. We chose Ruthern Valley as we had previously stayed there for our 2 week honeymoon in Sept 1996. We arrived at 8am as we drove from Kent to Cornwall and were told to go to Wadebridge until 9am even though we told them over the phone that we would be arriving about that time. We were disappointed that there was a lack of the previously abundant squirrels scampering around. We asked the site owner why this was and they said that they had to cull them as they were distroying tents. Maybe they should do away with the campsite and allow caravans only. The showers were cold. There were only 2 toilets for the ladies and there are 30 pitches. The pitches were only just big enough for our 6m tent. Our son did enjoy kicking a football around in the play area but that is all there is for children. Over all we are hugely disappointed at the way Ruthern Valley holidays has gone down hill. Was not impressed at being woken up at 10.30pm by someone tipping their wine bottles in the recycling bin. Could have waited until morning surely?

We had agreed that the guests could arrive earlier than the usual 12.00 start but unfortunately had not agreed a time. When they arrived curtains were drawn in the lodges and there was no movement on the campsite - everybody was still asleep. We asked them if they would mind coming back in an hour or so when people had started the day. We suggested Wadebridge would be a nice place for breakfast.
We went up to see that they were all ok and was asked why there were so few squirrels, as they remembered that 13 years ago the squirrels used to come in the lodges. I said that the owners of Ruthern Valley in the 90's had had problems with squirrels nibbling electric cables in the lodges and being destructive to tents so they had reduced the numbers in the late 90's.
We have owned Ruthern Valley for almost three years and have noticed the resident populations of species varies. To cull anything is against our beliefs and the whole ethos of Ruthern Valley. There is a very wide range of wildlife here and our efforts in preserving and encouraging them all has been recognised by our Gold David Bellamy Award for Conservation for the seventh year running.
By looking at our website and other reviews you will find there is plenty for the children to do. We have camping pitches of varying sizes and the shower block is in line with our 4* rating. (We have since added an extra shower & solar heating.)

We pitched our tent at Ruthern Valley during the second May Bank Holiday weekend. We arrived early on the Friday and were welcomed even though we were three hours before the official booking in time.

Andrew and Nicola were great and nothing was too much trouble. We never experienced a queue for any of the three showers, or the washing up facilities. The pitches were sizeable and well spaced.

We would definitely recommend this camp site to others.
