I was worried when I saw some reviews but nevertheless for the price (and curiosity)I booked to stay just this week. I can honestly say it is a stunningly historic old pub with great new management. Things are continually being improved even in the week I was there (did not influence or interupt our stay) the staff were very helpful and friendly, the locals made us Welcome and the food WOW !! They have a new chef and kitchen and I highly recommend even if you do not stay here you need to try the food !!

Do not stay at this place if you have any kind of standards. We booked to stay here for 2 nights so we could attend this years Royal Cornwall show. We didn't expect much for the price but basic customer service should of at least been attempted. First impressions count and this place gives the worst. It right on the main road so if you enjoy listening to traffic then this is the place for you. Also upon our arriving and waiting to be "checked" in we waited in the very basic bar area and got the pleasure of one of the Bodmin locals having a drink mid afternoon while still in her night wear. Classy place. We were shown our room and was taken aback by the lack of the advertised upgrading of the twin rooms. This upgrade basically consisted of new bedding and new art work. Room was small, ensure was smaller but was enough for our needs over the 2 nights we had planned. We left to go and eat elsewhere, best thing we could of done, but returned at 10.15pm. The pub was still open as expected but was playing loud music, we had expected this but we weren't expecting it still to be on at 12.10am! We complained about the noise level as it felt like sleeping in the middle of the bar, we were advised by the barmaid and manager that the music would be turned down and be turned off in 20 minutes. The music was not turned down but after 30 minute it was turned off. At last we thought we could get some sleep but after 5 minutes of peace the music came back on. A further complaint was made but the manager was not there so only the barmaid could apologise for the disturbance. In the morning after an uncomfortable nights sleep, what was left of it, we packed our bags and the car and headed downstairs to speak to the managers. The only person there was the housekeeper who was very helpful and tried to get us one of the managers but both were in bed. We were told one would be down but never did therefore we left without speaking to them. This ruined what was meant to be a fun 3 days at Royal Cornwall Show.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

On main road, very noisy, so wouldn't have slept if we had stayed. Outside was scruffy and the bar was noisy. It is a wonder they bother to have a business, they're so casual not have a card machine, or any idea about customer service. We got NO HELP from the landlod with our bags. The place was dirty and they didn't clear up glass for an hour and a half after we broke a vase struggling with bags down a narrow landing. The steps down from the car park are old, worn and frankly dangerous. How they have not been shut down by Health and Safety is beyond us. We were due to stay 2 nights, but there was NO WAY we were going to stay even one. We went next door to the Westberry and had a comfortable stay in a PROPER hotel, with standards one could reasonably expect. They were not at all surprised, clearly what we did happens a lot.

Stopped there last week for one night, room was perfectly OK, nice biscuits, tea and coffee, new TV and freeview. Might need a little modernising but I slept really well and the breakfast was brilliant. The staff there couldn't have been nicer and the locals were friendly and nice to have a pint with.
I would NOT hesitate to go back when you consider the price you pay.

This inn is tired and weary and in need of a good refurbish. This is the first place I have ever stayed where the room is not cleaned everyday and bins not emptied or room even been checked. Although towels and sheets were clean the valance was filty. The carpets in the room needed a good clean at the very least but replacing would be a better idea.
Some of the clientele were extremely foul mouthed outside and very loud music played so bear this in mind if staying over a weekend that no sleep will be possible until well after midnight.
Although full English breakfast was provided , no choice of cereal or fresh fruit was offered or on display.

Book though an Hotel search site. The worst B & B in the south west I have stayed in while away on business since April. Room was clean but very basic, small and sad. The bathroom was so small that hard to even to sit on loo. Booked 2 nights, room not cleaned or tea tray updated. The breakfasts were of the cheapest food, no taste or orange juice or milk. Loud music until 11 pm. Very noisy road, with smokers bad language with thin curtains letting pubs lights into room. I feel this was well overpriced and will not be back.
